I thought he was referring to "The Boy....". As for the Rough Mix of "You Know Where...", yeah, I'm aware of that song. I actually prefer that version to the final version.

No, I think your first statement is correct. It’s like a demo. They took all the samples out for mix that became the main b-side.

No, I think your first statement it’s correct. It’s like a demo. They took all the samples out for mix that became the main b-side.

In the Alternative booklet they say that the version on Alternative is close to the demo.

The only similar song in this sense is THe Boy Who... with the "Banji" girlfriend tantrum in the middle section. Those are also completely non-Neilish... so one wonders as well, who came up with those words?

There is nothing wrong if you write a song about a naked boy dancing, the problem is when you try to humillate him, I hate that part of the song but those lyrics haven't been written by Neil obviously.

Well yes, it's a largely sad song about a closeted guy whose nighttime persona is how he escapes his life. That's the part of the song where he gets rumbled by his partner, who represents the homophobia of the society around him. It's not supposed to be comfortable listening.

I'm sure they didn't write that part of the song. I see on it more an humillation by her girlfriend like part of a revenge than a representation of homophobia. There is homophobia here but it's more about misandry than anything else, making fun of him.

It's one of my favourite songs of theirs - this hadn't occurred to me before but surely its themes of nocturnal escape and sex mean it would have been a good fit for Nightlife?

With those bongos and such lyrics The boy... Was the perfect closing track for Bilingual. I will never understand how they chose the bland Saturday night instead.

But after your post now I wonder how it would have sounded, had they saved it for Nightlife, with a Rollo treatment.

I'm quite surprised that there are still official releases of tracks I've never heard. I only ever bought CD Singles when they started coming out, so all the stuff that's vinyl only and not on streaming or the alternative/format/further listening CD's is unknown to me. I wonder if they will get around to that rumoured digital release of all the back catalogue.

I've always loved this version (alongside the usual one) - I hope it gets an airing at the Obscure gigs. And it'd make a GREAT Literally question. Too late for this year, but next for sure.

it's very similar in vibe to the Boy.. sounds ad libbed and loose which suits PSB more than they realise - same as in To step Aside

In the book to Bilingual FL, Neil seems to mean that The Boy Who was finished in the studio by Tenaglia and it was he who brought the female singer. The passage sort of suggests that Tenaglia wrote the Banji-lyrics.
