Greetings,
RSD is awful. Unless Pet Shop Boys put out something entirely essential, I'm having no part of it. This does not meet that threshold.
Retro.
Whinge whinge whinge. I don't see what's awful about selling vinyl and promoting record stores but you do you.
To be fair, it can be frustrating for those of us who want to support independent record stores, want that product but maybe can't make it out on a very specific day of the year, then see these items on eBay at overinflated prices.
A much better solution would simply be to stock items at these record stores all the time, thus supporting them at the front end of the process and I can place my order with them and collect at a more convenient time.
I have had some luck getting things online the day after from these places, but the super sought after items are usually gone on the day of.

Gabby makes some good points above. It doesn't really work for record stores either, because they find it hard to gauge demand and end up lumped with stock they find difficult to shift.
There's a reason that the normal release strategy for physical product is based on pre-orders and not restricted by physical proximity, arbitrary volume limits, or country of issue. Artificial aberrations to the ideal process are not conducive to overall profitability or efficiency.
But hey, you seem like one of those people who is more interested in whether it feels good, than whether it actually works.

So some of us do know the Tim Simenon mix is not a version of the PSB remix but of the original DB album version. 100% the latter, because they are from spring 1995.
I wasn't aware of the timeline, thanks.

So cool. By the way, I have the CD that is signed by David Bowie, Neil and Chris. I got David to sign it in NYC after one of his promo shows for his album "Hours". My only time I met him.
Wow!
In face you could have greeted him with the song title!

Maybe because something that started as a good idea to promote record stores became more about wanky behaviour - extremely limited editions, ebay scalpers, etc.
And in that respect it has a lot in common with so much of PSB's recent output. It's more about the collectability than the content.
Also, pretty rich of you to criticise someone for whingeing when you have a hissy fit anytime someone posts something you consider 'off topic' on an online forum.

Not PSB related but some might be interested to know Electronic have a remix album for RSD as well.

And the Kae Tempest album is released as stripped back versions on vinyl for RSD.

I'd imagine the Tim Simenon mix is of the original rather than the PSBs.

I’m surprised Tim Simenon never remixed a psb release, unless anyone knows better? Chris has said ‘beat dis’ is one of his all time favourite songs, they would have surely crossed paths back in the day?

Indeed, there was some speculation about this further up the thread...

When you do something the wrong way sometimes is worse than not doing it at all.
In theory this sound great, but then you wake up at 6 to stand in line hours before the record store opens, only to get in and be told that the record is sold out, or "not delivered", when actually they're saving them to sell them later on eBay 10 times more expensive.

I'm sure RSD was originally well intentioned, but it's really not my idea of a fun time.
I'd love to buy a copy of 12" Hallo Spaceboy and the remixes from Electronic, and if you make sure they are only sold exclusively at those independent stores (be that physically or online), then why does it have to limited or specific to one day a year?
Stress free, and everyone wins - the artist, the record store and the purchaser.

The lack of CD releases on RSD annoys me so much.

i'm sure if there was CD store day, the lack of vinyl would
annoy a lot of people too.
