If James Ford became available I wouldn’t mind that at all as I like the analog sound he brought, though a James Ford/Stuart Price coproduction could be interesting.

I like the idea of them working with Klas Ahlund as his work with Robyn has been stellar throughout.

To create something quite different and interesting?

I'd also like to see the Pet Shop Boys do a collaboration with St. Etienne.

Stephen Hague. Because sometimes the past really is better and the first one is the one.

I'm all for sounding modern and contemporary, but I'd prefer sounding good. The amount of singles that I have loved without knowing Hague was the producer blows my mind. Dubstar, Blur, a-ha, Banderas...

Of all their producers, I would argue his sound most defined theirs.

He's still working.

I think his sound lent so much to what I would consider theirs that they are almost embarrassed by it and so wouldn't work with him again. But, for me, he is the ideal PSB producer. Stuart Price would also excite me, but Stuart is more a second-hand interpreter of their sound, a man who pastiches what he thinks they should sound like. Hague is the real deal.

Personally, I found James Ford stripped away their quirks and motifs and sanded off much of their charm. Nonetheless, while often beautiful, is largely sterile. The demos were a relevation to me, and far too many were superior to their final versions for me to think Ford did anything other than elaborately and ornately diminish them.

He’s done wonders with Morrissey -Bonfire of Teenagers and Eddie Vedder - Earthling albums. Great at putting gloss on bands that don’t make them sound old. You may not personally like certain PSB songs, but they always are extremely polished sounding. Would be a good match.

Deep down I’d like to give Andrew Dawson another shot to get it right this time. While there were some excellent b-sides like I Started A Joke, the majority of Elysium was horrible. I was never so let down by a PSB album, with Release & Nightlife as close 2nd place.

To be fair with Andrew Dawson I think he did the best with the material he was given. What was good (Leaving, A face like that, Invisible) sounds immaculate. As for the rest... Well it was what it was. Not even Stuart Price could have made miracles with Winner like he did with Vocal.

quite honestly, much prefer their self produced stuff nowadays. Agree Ford did the last album no favours.

Don't think they'd produce a whole album themselves though nowadays or even more than a few tracks. Quite like what St Etienne did on their last album with multiple producers, but also aware that can go horribly wrong. Otherwise maybe a fairly modern dance producer - ie not someone like the chemical brothers or Stuart Price again, might be most interesting to me

I'd definitely be up for Stephen Hague as I loved the last Dubstar album ("Token" gave me real PSB vibes, especially in its Widescreen mix). I'd also be okay with Andrew Dawson as Elysium is a personal favourite (again, please don't hurt me....). Alan Wilder sounds very intriguing.

I'd also put forward Ewan Pearson (I really like Delphic and his work with Tracey Thorn on "Dancefloor" and his remix of "Inclination" by Steven Wilson), and maybe William Orbit.

Yes, Pearson has done a lot of great work with Tracey Thorn. And his remix of "Psychological" is one of my favorites of a PSB song.

Glad to hear there is support out there for Andrew Dawson. He worked really hard for them and gave them some really beautiful tracks.
