I see no connection between PSB side projects and the release of their regular studio albums. For instance: there's 3 years between Very and Bilingual and also between Bilingual and Nightlife. They did have their activities during these intervals, but they've been WAY more busy during the intervals between Nightlife-Release and Release- forthcoming album.
That's not really true. The bulk of the material for "Closer To Heaven" was written during phase between the "Bilingual" and "Nightlife" albums.

IF this is not a rumour, we are looking at PSB's biggest comeback in a long time. What with the Trevor Horn produced album to follow, we would maybe be looking at a late peak in their career. One would hope it was more than just one Robbie song, however one would still be superb.
Robbie is a BIG fan of the Pets, so it would make sense, not taking into accounts two previous collaborations, and the cover he did of 'I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing'.

I hate to break it to you, but even if PSB writes a HUGE hit for Robbie it will mean little to PSB's own career (although it will be very cool for us fans and for PSB's bank account). After all, do you see Catchy Dennis flying high in the charts anywhere these days?

Its quite clear that Robbie is a fan of theirs - so I would not be at all suprised if this were true.
Its not exactly the kind of sensationalist rumour someone would just make up - Pet Shop Boys are not exactly 'hold the front page' these days. I'd call it a 'credible' rumour.

Say what?? Robbies performance on that track is nothing short of spectacular. As much as I love Neil, he could never pull anything like that off.

No Regrets wasn't a collaboration. It was a song written and recorded by Robbie - he just wanted the two Neils (Tennant and Hannon) to sing backing vocals and enrich the song.

Well, that's my dream: PSB will produce any RW's song for his new album and Robbie will make a duet on the new PSB album.
On the official site they talk about 9 songs, I don't believe that's the number of songs for the new album. Maybe, they don't talk about the NUMBER 10 track because it contains any secret.
But it's only a dream, probably it's not true.
