yeah but there are more then 3-4 songs she hasn't heard. She wanted a cd because she likes their music they have played on the radio.joeythecat wrote:I think any of these should go over like sliced bread:

Which songs do you think a 'mother' in 55 of ages would like?
Some must be songs that she has 'heard on radio' and recognize but I don't want it to be too much up-tempo electronica.
Here is the songs I choosed.
Domino Dancing
West End Girls
Jealousy
Always On My Mind
Suburbia
Being Boring
Seriously? (reprise)
Left To My Own Devices
What Have I Done..
It Couldn't Happen Here
It's A Sin
Se A Vida É
Home And Dry
Go west
I Get Along
Which 15 songs would you choose?
/P
I would try one of Pop or Art Cd- whicever she finds amusing and entertaining, I would dive for those songs in the same vein - To Step Aside, Neil whining on his past, may be a nice thing considering the lyrics and autumn-feeling. Hit and Miss should also help because while it is wonderful, it easily blends into the background with all the right pulls and stops of a run-of-the-mill rockish ballad.
Once in a picnic in the garden of a rest house for the elderly, two elderly ladies came and asked what we were listening to and they would love if they could have it- it was Behaviour and I gladly lent mine...Only to buy it again when I came back home.
The CELL by Stephen King instantly hit number 1 in New York Times Bookseller Lists selling well over 200 thousand copies in three weeks. This affirms my opinion: People really need an occassional good horror read...

Mr. Disco
My mother is indifferent to PSB, but once I made a CD-R for my cousin who was just into rock. Once a month we play together in an amateur band and since we're doing it for ages, a lot of PSB songs slipped into our repertoire.
He hated PSB beause they couldn't play a note (which isn't true) and programmed everything.
Now (under my bad influence
) he loves them and has many CDs (Very, Disco 1 & Behaviour are his favourites).
If I would present the boys to someone today, I would record this:
1 BETWEEN 2 ISLANDS
2 THE NIGHT I FELL IN LOVE
2 NEW LIFE
4 WAS THAT WHAT IT WAS?
5 IT MUST BE OBVIOUS
6 JACK THE LAD
7 THE END OF THE WORLD
8 HOW CAN YOU XPECT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY?
9 ONE AND ONE MAKE FIVE
10 UP AGAINST IT
11 BEFORE
12 SATURDAY NIGHT FOREVER
13 THE BOY WHO COULDN'T KEEP HIS CLOTHES ON
14 ONE IN A MILLION
15 A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW

Well in that case... I would go with a mixture of their biggest hits and some great album tracks and some outstanding b-sides...
Nothing from Very, or Nightlife or Release.
If it goes over well make volume II
Petrospective Vol I
West End Girls
Always On My Mind (single mix)
Heart (album version)
Domino Dancing (single mix)
Rent (single mix)
Jack the Lad
Being Boring (album version)
Losing my Mind (7" mix) included as it was a big hit back in the day, just not by PSB
Jealousy (single mix)
Opportunities
Left To My Own Devices (single mix)
Hey Headmaster
Before
What Have I Done..
My October Symphony
It's A Sin
Miracles
Se A Vida É
