He may have gotten away with that but at the end of the day, it's happened throughout Euro2008 and you will see this sort of thing being done by everyone from every team.
Your Funny Uncle wrote:The first German goal was great, though, and it was a very entertaining match.
A very entertaining tournament, so far the best I've seen of any football competitions
Your Funny Uncle wrote:And what's this rubbish about "Never write off Germany?" Who wrote them off?
Not me

Good win for Germany. I was hoping the camera would stay on Ronaldo for a bit longer at the end so I could laugh at the little shit-bag when the inevitable tears started. Sadly, they didn't.

I'm rather enjoying this tournament. It's very open, and whoever said it was the best tournament since Italia'90 was spot on. 8)

But Italia '90 was crap! I think that all England supporters view it through rose-tinted glasses. Don't you remember the opening 1-1 draw with Ireland? It was the grimmest football match ever and the Argentina team that reached the Final were the most negative team in the history of football. Spain '82 was the last tournament in which teams played with such gay abandon/ bad defending as this tournament - the remaining three quarter-finals are all perfect from a football point of view too.

*edit* that is if you enjoy watching Turks play for penalties. Hi Galata!

At 120 minutes, Turkey were 10,000 - 1 to go through. Who had a quid on that?

This game just goes to show that you should never leave a game until the final whistle. Unbelievable.

Well done to the Turks. Never know when they are beat. Croatia were a typical example of peaking too early. Never really did enough.

Got to give it to Turkey, they have Balls of steel and have now come back in the final seconds of Two games. Nihat is a great player and I just hope he will be OK to face the Germans. I can't feel sorry for Croatia, they gave me 2 sleepless nights after knocking out England last year. Not to say they are a very good side.
I still fancy Holland or Spain but who knows?

I really can't see them beating the Germans though. They will be ruthless where Croatia were profligate. Italy-Germany final then. What would happen if you had more than eleven players suspended for a match?

I am very sad that Croatia is out. :(
They are our brothers...

Turkey shows very good football and they deserve victory.
Germany is very strong and the biggest problem for all team they are really big, not technically good but phisically.

It is really silly to say it was pure "luck"....If it was just " luck", then Crotians were also lucky to score a goal at 119...

Anyway, next is Germany...Who knows? No one thought we would knock the Crotians out but it just happened.

Thank you for those kind words above:)

Well done to Turkey. I'm gutted for Croatia, who I've been backing throughout the tournament, but the Turks showed immense character last night and deserve a crack at the Germans albeit with a depleted team (let's hope Nihat recovers in times as well).

On a side note, I thought the Turks also acted with great dignity after the penalty shoot-out, especially Rustu, who chose to console the Croatians rather than celebrate.

I can't see the Turks doing the same for the umptieth time in this competition. I can however, see Italy beat Spain tomorrow and Russia beating Holland this evo. I could be wrong.

These knockout stages must be the tightest and most difficult that I have ever seen in any competition.

Turkey cannot have the same luck once again, can they! Croatia deserved to win that game, they played better and had more chances during the whole game. And when you score 28 minutes into a 30 minute extra time... incredible! Croatia really sucked at the penalty shoot-out so maybe they didn't deseve to win after all. Also, I think football is an odd game in that you'll never know when the referee ends the match! I mean, how can you add a minute to an already extra overtime?
Why not do as in ice hockey and stop the clock every time the playing is stopped? Well, I guess that football is a much conservative game...

By the way: how come Turkey plays in the European championship, when it's actually an Asian country, both geographically and culturally?
Yes I know Russia is spread over two continents as well, but it feels more like belonging to Europe culturally and the European part of the country is still the biggest of the continent. I guess UEFA has something to do with it, just like Israel and other Asian countries can participate in Eurovision Song Contest because they are members of European Broadcasting Union. But the question is why an Asian country should be a member of a European union?
