I don’t even think the 1989 tour film needs an upgrade because I think they’ve already done it. Look at the footage from the film used in their documentary DVD, A Life in Pop - it looked amazing and already upscaled to 16:9 and picture quality looked great! They just need to make the decision to release it!

Actually, you're right. I'd forgotten about the bits in the documentary. I agree, it looked really good. Maybe one day.....

They obviously have a good quality master, but don´t get fooled by that "upscaled to 16:9" thing. They just did a zoom-in to the original image and cropped the top and the bottom. I really prefer the full complete image, even if it´s not 16:9, rather than a chopped version made just to fit the new screens standards...

I think these YouTube videos are for the casual viewer who doesn't have the DVDs. I am glad they're uploading them as they are, rather than putting them through the horrible "HD upscale" process which just makes everything look... well, horrible. These "upscales" sadly made it onto SMASH as well.

Any remaster of the 1989 tour should have course be presented in 4:3, as that's how they were filmed. A 16:9 presentation is just a crop.

I doubt they'll release it though, I have a feeling they still dislike the way it was shot on video. Perhaps they'll include "It's a sin" from that tour as part of this YouTube series.
