I think the string arrangements are by James Ford. Anne Dudley is a bit of a Piano Room regular. I think has links with the BBC Concert Orchestra.

I’m still very nervous about this album. Loneliness is a great opening track and single… sounds amazing. But the singles that came before the Blur and Depeche Mode albums also sounded amazing… but both those albums suffered from sounding like jam sessions, or demos, or soundboard recordings. Here’s hoping that nonetheless sounds as full and exciting as loneliness.

In fact, PSB said Ford wanted to make the song less complicated or something like that. So maybe we'll see that on the new album.

It will be amazing, my only question is how much electro the ballads will sound..

The new album is described like "uplifting" but we know it has many ballads. Well, uplifting can have many meanings but it's bit strange this album could be considered uplifting with so many ballads. You can expect a sad album but maybe it's not.

Maybe we'll find ballads like the song "Remember where you are" of Jessie Ware. Something, I'd really love. I like this song. The clip was shot during the pandemic and well PSB are working with almost the same people and talking about the pandemic from a human perspective. Maybe this song and the whole album of Jessi Ware "What's your pleassure?" could be an influence.

My initial excitement for the new album is moderated by two things.

Of their last five albums I only really loved one on first listen. Electric was an instant hit, an endorphine rush after the trip to Dignitas that was Elysium's first play. Super was as bizarre a first listen as I can recall, while Hotspot left me cold, and not because it was January in Berlin. So, it's rare for me to feel euphoric on first contact. Yet, all of those albums flowered with time, and all of them contain what I would regard as classic tracks. My experience, therefore, tells me to enjoy the slow reveal.

Secondly, while the last three albums were collectively wonderful, there's been a very slight sense of diminishing returns as we've traveled from Electric to Super to Hotspot. Is this a very gentle but terminal decline, or is there another peak on the way? Only time will tell.

The unrelenting strobes and lasers phase grew a little wearisome by the time of Hotspot, but Hoping for a miracle and Burning the heather temporarily slaked a thirst for complex Tennant narratives dwelling inside expansive Lowe soundscapes without so much of the intrusive +8 pitchbent Price knob-twiddling...

Ford, we are told, has stripped back the electronics and turned up the strings, the iconography is imperialist, and Loneliness is a glorious slab of pop psychodrama. Parlophone will add a glossy sheen. These are all good signs.

My only fear is if there is too much indulgence and nostalgia and not enough taut, thrilling story-telling.. I hope we get a few more lyrics that are wry, detached observer/awkward protagonist, and not so many morbid dirges for lost youth and a freer world... Nostalgia is good, but in moderation!

All I do know is that, having been absolutely fine with no new PSB for four years, the arrival of Loneliness has made me obsessive and impatient...! C'mon boys, drop another one!!

There's been plenty of PSB material since Hotspot came out, more than enough for more than one album.

What is different now is this is a 70-year-old man's perspective on life, and one who's been a millionaire pop star for most of the last four decades. So he'll write something like Twenty-something which appears to empathise with that generation, then slag off the only politician who spoke for them. So for me, Neil is the main problem these days, a bit too pleased with himself and being recognised as a 'national treasure'. Trump is bad yawn.

There's been plenty of PSB material since Hotspot came out, more than enough for more than one album.

But the quality of it wasn't good enough.
