I think the string arrangements are by James Ford. Anne Dudley is a bit of a Piano Room regular. In fact, PSB said Ford wanted to make the song less complicated or something like that. Ford, we are told, has stripped back the electronics and turned up the strings, the iconography is imperialist, and Loneliness is a glorious slab of pop psychodrama. Parlophone will add a glossy sheen. These are all good signs.
My only fear is if there is too much indulgence and nostalgia and not enough taut, thrilling story-telling.. I hope we get a few more lyrics that are wry, detached observer/awkward protagonist, and not so many morbid dirges for lost youth and a freer world... Nostalgia is good, but in moderation!
All I do know is that, having been absolutely fine with no new PSB for four years, the arrival of Loneliness has made me obsessive and impatient...! C'mon boys, drop another one!!
