Any sign of West End Girls at the lower end of the UK singles chart?

Not really, but it ha re-entered i-Tunes Top 1500 singles. Its #1167 at the moment.

Almost ! Chart research has shown that if you are at #1500 on I-Tunes for a whole chart week, you sell something in the region of 200- 230 downloads, obviously the specific number will vary.

Discography #176 this week.

West End girls is stitting at #1253 the moment. Has been as "high" as #850.(i-Tunes) Has sold in the region of 500-700 downloads in the last week.

Has sold more than 2,000 copies since it re-entered the i-Tunes top 1500.

How much does an artist & songwriter earn from a 99p download? 25p maybe?

25p? No way. At best 10% so 9.9p but more likely about 5%

A scandal! Who makes all the money? Apple, EMI must take a cut but as performers, writers, publishers and copyright holders surely PSB Partnership must take more than 10%?

Bearing in mind that back in 1997 George Michael negotiated and unprecedented 6% when rejoining Sony, most artists will be on less. Although the way music is purchased has changed, contracts have not.

There was an article recently, I think that it was in Music Week, not entirely sure though, but it stated that under "normal" circumstances, an artist was paid 12p from a download Apple and the record company shared the rest. If an artist owned the copyright its share would be higher. The PSB share will be quite high, at least for Electric and the singles from it, since they pay for everything more or less, and then license it to Kobalt. Neil has stated that the income they get from each copy sold is vastly higher, than what they received from their contract with EMI.

I can see what Prince was banging on about for all those years now...
