Pop40 has slipped quite a bit to number 37 in the midweeks.

Oh there will be a new album but it will be as cheap sounding (and looking) as the previous half a dozen.

You need to be selling a lot more copies of a brand new GH package than around 20,000. Surely even you realise this. It's not rocket science that poor sales begin a vicious circle, which ends with a smaller budget for the following release. Thats how business works.

Maybe Andy can do a few more performances on the LovvvveeeBoat (No bun intended) ;)

Let's revisit this in about a year's time. I'll quote you.

Hits! sold over 100,000, so I'm sure this package will sell more over time - don't you worry your little white undies.

As for the vicious circle you speak of, it doesn't really affect Erasure, as Vince has his own studio back on his property (the biggest cost in any production)... and seeing as he's the greatest pop songwriter ever, we're obviously starting off from a high point. Any worthy producer would only be additional icing on this legendary cake.

I would actually love to see a PSB single remixed by Erasure, and an Erasure single remixed by PSB.

Feel free but you will say the album is fantastic, whatever they put out.

Oh i wont be worrying my undies over it. As long as you don't worry your enormous black cataract specs over the fact that pop40 will sell nowhere near 100,000 copies ;)

LOL  You can have the biggest studio in the world or a log house. It doesn't matter one jot if you haven't a proper producer to start of with and an artist who has run out of idea's. (it would also be nice if we had some decent artwork. Not some photo off the back of a packet of Bill Oddies fruity bird seed mix)

I partly agree. PSB might give a few songs a much needed lift. As for Andy Bell tampering with a PSB record ;- It would be like asking McDonalds to look after your cow. No thanks.

Artist who's run out of ideas? That's rich. I think you should re-read my initial post. I said a producer isn't as expensive as a studio, which is the largest production cost. I didn't say a proper producer isn't useful. Even Vince and Andy say they require a producer to keep them on track and to bounce ideas off of.

As for the remix comment, I think it would be more of a novelty switch-around, and really, is more of a fun peace offering. Strangely enough, Andy's becoming an impressive remixer. For someone who thinks the band has run out of ideas long ago, and who believes that there is no hope for their future (as you've mentioned above about their next album), you certainly do spend a lot of money and time on this "depleted" band. :?

And you know, old friend, we aren't going to progress any further if you keep throwing gasoline and sparks onto my extended olive branches.

I haven't spent anything on their new albums. I get them all for 'free' except for pop40 deluxe and that only cost me £16 in the end.

LOL! I'd love to see these olive branches. All i've ever seen from you is little personal insults about grammar when it's clear you are losing an argument. A classic response from someone who's backed into a corner. So cut out the bullshit. Although i'm all for a truce in these rather tiresome discussions. I'll look forward to your reply ;)

Smaller budget, so what mute are going to take some of Vince's synth's away?

So you seem to think you are some kind of media expert here, I suppose PSB "Always" sell enough records (BP, Concrete?) to have a proper "budget" do they?

I don't really think you know what you are talking about in fact it is pretty obvious that you like a few others simply use Erasure as a means to compare with PSB and as PSB sell more then they must be great or something? You obviously arn't really a great music fan if these things are more important and if you really believe that the new album will be affected by apparently poor sales of this new greatesrt hits. I thought that greatest hits cd's were things that sold over time ie popart or does that only count with PSB? You seem to make the rules so you should know.

Ive said it before but can you really like PSB because yes they sell more than Erasure but a lot less than a lot of other acts. Maybe you should consider that PSB might need a budget cut because of this.

So he has got more than one synth then? My ears must have decieved me over the last decade.

No, i never said PSB always sold a large amount at all. you seem to have quite an habit of putting words into peoples mouths. You have done it to other members already, who have had to put you right. You aren't learning lessons.

See above. you might grasp it eventually. Words, people, mouths.

As for people on here thinking PSB are great, well you are on a PSB forum for gods sake. What are the members going to say?

Holy Shit. If you want the best, you need to pay for it. Mute is a business. If the money isn't coming in, the budget is limited. Surely even you can grasp that. Even a lot of Erasure fans on the EIS forum moan about a lack of budget. Why do Mute throw a lot more money at Depeche Mode? I'll answer that for you ;- Because DM still sell healthy amounts. It's not even difficult to grasp. Well, for most it isn't. Even the video's are either cheap or non existant. I wonder why that is?
JSDOUVRES wrote: Ive said it before but can you really like PSB because yes they sell more than Erasure but a lot less than a lot of other acts. Maybe you should consider that PSB might need a budget cut because of this.
You are the one comparing sales here. PSB get a good budget because they sell healthy amounts. Of course other acts sell a lot more. who said they dont? I can see it now ''Now then Neil and Chris, I'm Mr Dourves and unfortunatly, Girls Aloud sell a lot more than you, so therefore your next producer is ten bob bit and you are filming your video sat on the toilet''.

Budgets are nothing to do with what others sell. Budgets are based on what that particular artist sells. Surely thats obvious? A record company isn't going to throw money at dead wood. It will just be wasted because they wont get a return.

So Erasure don't sell enough in your opinion to bother continuing?
They got to 21 in the charts with the new album didn't they? Is that not enough these days? I suppose 17 is more than enough!
Erasure like PSB have enough hardcore fans to sell enough and go on for a long time to come and you know that very well.
And as for this continued attack on their quality of music, sorry but you don't know what you are talking about.
What is an electro pop group supposed to sound like exactly?
Have you actually made an effort to listen to a recent Erasure album without prejudice? They are different than PSB in that they have kept to their electronic sound more but to say that means the music is all tiny and basic etc. is totally missing the plot. Maybe if they had Johnny Marr on Guitar you may like it?
And the only cheap video I remember was Sunday Girl wasn't it? They have had music video's for their other singles haven't they?
Are you really sure PSB sell healthy amounts? As compaired to who? Erasure or Girls aloud?
Try to forget all that crap and Enjoy the music!

To be fair, a new Erasure album should, in theory, sell better (initially) than their third greatest hits album to have been released in the lifetime of almost anyone who conceivably might buy it.

Should but wont/wouldn't.
