You either like the work of an artiste or you don't - and, as you yourself say, if you don't like it, don't buy it. Simple as that really. As JSP says above, and I think I said in an earlier post, they don't "owe" us anything.

When I wrote about having a right to complain, I didn't mean to say you can bring your product back to the music store if you don't like it. But I don't think you can deny that you are a music consumer when you go to a record shop and buy a cd.

I'm not saying PSB owe me anything, but they should understand that a release like Disco 4 doesn't exactly create enthusiasm with longtime fans who bought all these remixes on the original cd-singles. Disco 4 is a reward for the 'not-that-big-fans', I say with all respect.

As for PSB releasing stuff: I'm very pleased that they are still releasing stuff and I do appreciate their output a lot. But they don't HAVE TO release music. It's their choice to continue doing it. They are rich enough to quit music.

I'm happy with every new PSB album, every new song, every new remix. But please allow me to be critical about stuff like Disco 4; milking fans.

In fairness, I don't really think D4 is about milking fans or cashing in. After all, the Boys will have to pay royalties to all the artists remixed on D4, and they'll only receive songwriting royalties on two of the eight tracks. I'd have to imagine this will be the least profitable release for the Boys.

They could milk the fans better, and make more money, by actually giving us what we want: if they've already recorded a few extra tracks, it would cost them nothing to release them, alongside remixes or b-sides that have already appeared. We'd be a little more happy, more of us would buy it, and the Boys would be earning royalties instead of paying them.

The only plausible motive I can see for D4 is the one the Boys have stated: they just want to put out a release featuring this branch of their work. The fact that the rest of the world, including fans, is less interested in PSB as remixers than as songwriters is presumably immaterial to them.

I heard the tracklisting for Disco 4 in iTunes yesterday minus Integral and it sounds quite good. With the exception of the two PSB songs the remixes they've chosen are of songs they didn't write or produce initially and I wish they would have also included Blur's Girls & Boys. That's a good remix/song and there is enough space for it. Maybe they didn't get permission to use it even though I think Blur are on EMI. Mope is pretty forgettable so I won't miss that one.

They could choose Girls And Boys and Jack And Jill Party instead the songs by Atomizer and Rammstein

Maybe they didn´t get the rights to release GAB and JAJP

I think they co-wrote and produced Jack and Jill Party which is not the case for the other non-PSB remixes they chose.

well they actually own the right for JAJP as it was done on their own label !!!!

And girls & boys recording is owned by EMI

I wonder if this is true? It wouldn't be the 1st time a journo tried to manufacture a kerfuffle between 2 acts. Makes for good publicity, don't ya know.
And when did this rift occur? Damon appeared on Twentieth Century Blues so they must have been on good terms in 1998.
Plus the Boys released their version of G&B as a B side, so Damon has made a Euro or 2 off N&C - and I'm sure still continues to.

Ah, well, there's always the D4 Further Listening CD to look forward to .....

Damon obviously wanted Integral released as a single and told Neil that releasing a bunch of remixes as Disco 4 was uninspired and unfair to their customers, erm, I mean fanbase.

I think The Sun's story is probably deliberate mischief making. It's very pro-psb and anti-Damon. Having said that, I think it is probably very likely that the Pets did ask to include Girls & Boys on Disco 4 and were rejected, for whatever reason. Given that Blur are on Parlophone, we can probably rule out it being a record company issue.

Don't forget that Girls & Boys (PSB version) appears on the Very FL CD...and Blur included the PSB remixes in their box set.
