Other countries have an ID card since many years ago... and no one has died because of it.

It's just an useful thing. Not only for the government, but also for own, common use.

The British plan is to build up a National Identity Register on a scale that has never been attempted before. The cards will include retinal scans, finger prints and a whole host of other personal information. So what will happen when you lose your card? Or someone hacks into the database? George Orwell must be spinning in his grave.
Prick up your ears.

Will the ID Card be able to tell you that your husband is taking bribes from Italian Prime Ministers?

Or is it just to make the proles pay their library fines?

why is everyone always focusing on the negative? I think what would make it more cooler is if it had a tracking device so they can always know where you are.

you would never really be alone again cause you would have someone on computer seeing where you go.maybe they could even send you comments from now and then in the mail and by phone about how something you did that day was a good idea or bad one. see,it does have an upside.

I too thought about "Wag The Dog". And we all know what tremendous pull pop stars have on weighty issues.

"I'm With Stupid" - does anyone remember the resounding thud of disinterest that greeted "The Night I Fell In Love", about Eminem, everywhere? It too made press on both sides of the Atlantic- for a day.

Less than a day. All press is good press i guess. But firing up the UK tabs in late Feb when the album's not out til May.. sort of pointless PR. No one will remember. They need new PR. Edwina Monsoon is available, i hear.

Yeah, well other countries have had Franco, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini.. not to mention bloody revolutions.

We in Britain have avoided these things more or less because we champion our liberty and won't allow our authorities to take it away.. Charles I tried it in 1640s and we chopped his head off!

Isn't it nice that Tessa Jowell has so much money that she apparently didn't notice that her £400,000 mortgage was paid off a few weeks after she took it out? She must be so in touch with the needs of the average Briton.
