I certainly think number 5 is a respectable position, but there can be no comparisons with Actually and Introspective. The reason those albums did not hit number one was that they were released at a time when two of the best selling albums of all time (Michael Jackson's "Bad" and U2's "Rattle and Hum) were dominating the charts.

Actually and Introspective would have reached number five today if they were released for the first time last Monday.

Number five is a tremendous position for a pop band in the game for over 20 years. They've achieved the longevity some of us thought a pipe-dream 15 years ago when Behaviour referenced the term and confirmed a commercial decline which would never be reversed but which now, crucially, will not prove terminal.

But then PSB were also ruling the charts. Remember those imperial times? Anyway, my point is rather statistical. Number 5 looks great on paper when added to past numbers.

And now, the main challenge is to maintain Fundamental in Top 75 as long as it is possible. I don't know if it happens but it should remain afloat at least until Minimal is released, which, if promoted well, may carry the album until the end of the summer.

I think PopArt left the Top 75 after 6 weeks? 7 weeks?

PopArt stayed six weeks in top 75, but re-entered for two weeks when Flamboyant was released as a single.

I truly is a quite an accomplishment. It's comparable to, say, Gerry and the Pacemakers releasing a top 5 album in 1985. Unthinkable.

As for Fundamental entering @ 5: AWESOME !!!!

Think about it --- an intelligent, political, album by 2 "old" men who've been around for 20 years does this good in an arena that favors mindless, sex-drenched, young one hit wonders.

Actually, AWESOME is quite an understatement but better words escape me.

PS: old is in quotes earlier for emphasis & not because I have some ageist issues.

I believe number 5 is very creditable.

Remember Release reached 7, and came in 5 different colours that forced several tragic fans (yes, me) to buy 5 copies.

So 5 is great.

Depeche Mode's "playing the angel" entered at number 6 when it came out, so IMO number 5 is fantastic.

brill! just think about it: how many rock bands, let alone pop bands, have managed to keep abreast of times for over 20 years? and how many of them are still releasing quality top 5 albums? the psb are from the 80s ferchrissake! and they're still around and as important as ever. just look at all the reviews and articles! i iz well imposed! aye!
