Well you said that "To my mind at least, they've always been about a little more than mere fun." But I think you can safely say that since 1993 there's been a lot more 'fun' and a lot less 'cool'. Well maybe not Release, ahem.
I'm not saying that's a good thing, but I just wanted to point out to you that the 'party approach' of the new show that made you so ever so slightly queasy is not new, so you should have had a rough idea of what to expect. No point hankering after the long-gone glory days of the past. PSB have changed whether we like it or not.
Thanks, but I don't need a history lesson - especially an irrelevant history lesson. What I should expect at a show is completely irrelevant to a discussion on the merits or otherwise of the more understated aspects of the PSB world. Your interjection in this thread is really quite pointless.

As is yours. Any bitter old 'fan' who spends more time bitching about what other concert-goers look like at the gig then whines that he/she feels a little queasy about the 'celebratory aspect' of the show when they'd quite clearly seen Discovery so knew the 'golden' era of understated cool was well and truly buried in the 90s should really think twice about whether they really want to pay good money for a show they already know they're gonna feel uneasy about. Either that or stop living in the past. Or pop a few pills and enjoy life.

He was positive about the performance but the opening paragraph is bizarre and sits awkwardly with the rest of the review.

It's that old chestnut, "I don't have a problem with people being gay, but keep it yourself and don't shove it in my face!"
Gays should be seen, but not heard.
Unfortunately many of the older PSB fans do share a similar view, calling songs about homosexuality "too gay" and wishing Neil was still in the closet in his 50s (because it would be 'more mysterious' like it used to be) which would be a sad affair indeed...

Are you still talking about the review? If you are, then the review has got nothing do with that "old chestnut".

I think he was at 67ish. He was up on his position from last year.
