My parents never heard of the PSB !
My mother still think that I'm a fan of Adam and the Ants and Japan... She didn't realise that it was 20 years ago !!

Actually my mum still thinks that as well as PSB, Bowie etc that I'm still a huge fan of Adam too. Just because I did some work on his Antbox set and interviewed him for MOJO.

I stopped following him religiously in 1984, when I discovered Dead Or Alive.

Me mam has good taste tho - got me into T Rex (we used to watch the Marc TV show), Roxy Music, Scott Walker, ABBA, Dusty and Motown etc...

Well I suppose our mums still see us as their little child !!

My mum and dad both really like PSB, my dad in particular (who I think is a secret fan). I remember him raving about Love Comes Quickly when that came out as a single and then even more so with Rent. In fact, my parents kind of steered me to fandom when they bought me Actually in 87/88. At the time I didn't have much of a concept of what an album was because my music collection then consisted almost exclusively of tapes of songs I'd recorded from the charts. So Actually was the first album I owned and I never looked back.

I have a great memory of Nightlife's release because myself and my dad both bought it on the Monday. Just as Footsteps had finished the phone rang and it was my dad asking me what I thought of the album! I remember him saying he particularly liked In Denial as he liked the male/female combination but, as he hadn't read the inlay card thoroughly, didn't know the duet was with Kylie until I told him. And this weekend he told me he'd just bought Nightlife on cassette to listen to in the car (so that's another sale!).

As for my mum, well, she's accompanied me to two PSB gigs, plus Closer To Heaven and had a great time at each. She absolutely hates New York City Boy, though, and always rants about how the song marrs an otherwise excellent album when we listen to Nightlife (I kind of agree with that, mind you!).

My mum hasn't heard a great deal of PSB stuff since Discography, and a few weeks ago I put the PopArt DVD on when she was down for a couple of days.

As soon as New York city boy came on she started laughing out loud and said "this sounds like the Village People!" It wasn't meant as a compilment

I was embarrassed but that moment confirmed everything I always thought about the song and what a mistake it was. Thank God, there's been none of PSB's "funny, silly" records like that (and Absolutely fabulous, Where the streets have no name (I can't take my eyes off you)) since.

PS I've also treated my mum to concerts by Bowie, Tina Turner and Debbie Harry but, so far, not PSB.

My dad isn´t interested at all . He hates it when I´m watching PSB when he comes in living room. He always tolds me to shut it down and let him see what is on tv .
My mum likes PSB. But she prefers Cliff Richard and Elvis . But she likes It´s a sin and I don't know what you want but I can't give it any more and some other psb-song which one I can´t remember .

I never play PSB loud in the house when the family's around. They just make fun of me, because they're old (old, and old... 40) rockers who were into Sex Pistols and now only listens to U2 and Metallica and such dull things. It sucks.

you call your parents old? Mine are in their mid-50s and prefer French chansons and Queen; Neil Diamond and things like that...

A bit of Queen I wouldn't mind I actually love Sex Pistols and old rock n roll, but at least I keep an open mind towards other music. My parents don't. Gets on my nerves.

Then play it louder. If they are taking the piss out of you, they obviously don't like PSB. So piss them off by cranking up the volume. Go girl.

Well my parents prefer 1950s cocktail music- usually with cocktail and hors d'oeuvres. Or the Kingston Trio but thats usually on wine and cheese nights.

one of thier albums was laying around, and my dad picked it up like he had found a joint or something. "Pet Shop Boys??!" he said in a 'what-in-the-crap-is-this?!!' manner.

I never explained it to them.

When I reminded her that Neil was 'one of our lads' ( a geordie ) she said 'Oh !! he's alright then!'

That's how I got my Dad to warm to Neil slightly, y telling him that Neil's mother's side of the family are Irish!!!!!
