I missed this show last time because I don't like the character of Billie Trix. I'm pretty sure I'll be missing it this time.

I wonder if we’ll get a physical release of the music from this this time around?

I doubt it but a limited release sold at the venue as with the original Run Girl Run would be fun.

By the way and going a touch off topic I'm a fairly frequent visitor to Wiltons and remember a couple of wonderful Marc Almond concerts there - his comeback after the motorcycle accident where his manager let me in to the sold out show free of charge on an unclaimed press ticket. For those who haven't visited it's a wonderful venue and rather than tarting it up with restoration money, it's been made safe and preserved in its faded elegance.

Two of my ex Royal Albert Hall colleagues work Wiltons Bar. I got a shock the other day on my bank account with the price of four Musik tickets at £112 to Wiltons and thought I'd been overcharged at the bar as had also visited and seen a show by coincidence. What a relief to find that my bar bill was a correct £5.70 and came up as ''Mahogany Bar''.

I've yet to try their speciality goose sausage roll...

Tony award-winner Terry Johnson is set to direct a new production of the Pet Shop Boys musical Musik.

Six years after its world premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe and London transfer, Musik is set to return to London to Wilton’s Music Hall this autumn.

Written by Jonathan Harvey and Pet Shop Boys Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, the show will star Frances Barber who reprises her role as Billie Trix and will be directed by Johnson, who previously won a Tony award for La Cage Aux Folles. The one-woman cabaret will run from October 14 to October 25, 2025, with a press night on October 17.

Johnson said: “I am delighted to be joining the sterling team of creatives on this funny, tuneful, eccentric and startling joy-ride of a show in which Ms Barber, armed with the wit of Mr Harvey and the tune-smithery of Messrs Tennant and Lowe, will step onto the stage of the most prestigious music hall still standing, and stir its ghosts into a frenzy of alarm and admiration.”

Barber said: “Of all the characters I’ve ever played, Billie Trix is the closest to my heart. A woman of a certain age (even she doesn’t know) who has lived a life that may or may not be entirely accurate, but what a ride. Billie was born from the brilliant imagination of Jonathan Harvey & PSB in Closer To Heaven over 20 years ago. When we embarked on her solo adventures PSB wrote six new songs for each chapter of her extraordinary experiences, woven into the magical narrative of Jonathan. She’s delusional, outrageous, accidentally hilarious and beyond loveable. I’m thrilled my journey with her is coming back.”

Harvey said: “It was such a treat reconnecting and working with Chris and Neil on this, over 20 years after our first foray into musical theatre writing.

"In Musik Billie, dried up, drug addled icon and rock star performs her self-penned self-directed one person art house extravaganza about her life, loves, and - amazingly - how she was present at every important moment in recent - and not so recent
- world history. Is she telling the truth? Can she still nail a number after 10 lines of cocaine? Come and decide for yourselves!”

The Pet Shop Boys said they "loved the compelling outrageousness of the character Billie Trix as written by Jonathan and performed by Frances" in Closer to Heaven.

"We discussed for many years the idea of creating her own one-woman show which would give us the chance to write more songs for her as she looks back on her incredible career.

"It was thrilling when this show became a sold-out reality in Edinburgh a few years ago and we are delighted that it is returning to London in such a beautiful and historic venue. Frances Barber’s astonishing performance is not to be missed," they added.

Is anyone going to the first show today? The boys may have made some changes to the show and added new tracks????

As I do not know much about this kind of side projects by them since Closer to Heaven, are they really popular with the man on the street, and do they reach audiences who are not Pet Heads? I mean the ballet, these musicals, etc.

I must confess that I am not very invested or interested in them in the first place but this is due to my personal life that was in turmoil in the last decade, not because I find them poor or bad.

Hello, many familiar fan faces there tonight!
No new tracks but new projections and some wicked new lines from Jonathan Harvey.
The Boys were in the house.
Frances B maybe a bit nervous but had us all in the palm of her hand very quickly!

Sounds really good - I'm looking forward to seeing the show on Saturday!

Did you speak to Neil and Chris after the show?

Was there merch to purchase?

I do find it odd they continue to work with a transphobe like Barber. I wonder what she thinks of the Winner video.

Maybe they realise that the things they have in common with their friends are more important than the differences.
