It's not a single from the new album. Why then you all think that the song should show & fit the next album style?

Anyway, I personally doubt that the info on Siren is correct. Either it's a mistake or PSB have totally lost any sense of taste and sense they had left.

No offence meant to anyone.
It's all well and good that they are releasing the single, we'll have new artwork, maybe a couple of mixes, a b-side, three formats, then the album. Something is better than nothing.
However, exactly how this is going to get the interest of the record buying public is beyond me.
I mean look at the current UK number one for heaven's sake. Its the Crazy Frog song, that's what people are interested in.
Still, looking forward to the single and the album.
So PSB should release a ringtone? Who cares if the ''general public'' aren't interested in this single. For f*** sake, you're knocking a song before you have even heard it.

I'm not really interested in Potemkin but i am looking forward to the new single. For those who are whinging about it not being electronic, whats that got to do with anything? It's a single off the new album, its a one off.

Not knocking the song Dave because obviously I haven't heard it, just questioning the logic of releasing a single for a soundtrack of an event that took place nearly a year ago. It doesn't make commercial sense, especially as single releases are loss making exercises anyway.

Why not just concentrate on the new material which is long overdue, by the time the new album is released it will be 4 years between studio albums.

Seems very odd it getting released a year later :? No Time for Tears is a good song but for me After All out classes it.

It should have come out last December as double A Side also with the DVD., why are they so darn slow with things :?

But anyway it's a single and anything that gets heard by the general public by PSB i will be happy

So you would prefer it if they just released the soundtrack WITHOUT any promo single, or perhaps you would prefer they didnt release the soundtrack at all?

I would say that all the recordings for BP are done and they are concentrating on new material, which BTW will be a year old by the time they release it :P

I would prefer it if they released the OST without a single, a single won't make any difference in sales whatsoever anyway. Releasing a sub-standard single a few months before their proper comeback will only just lessen the hype for when they do comeback. Releasing the OST as a side project won't have the same effect as it will be an OST with 'music by Pet Shop Boys' and not a PSB album or single.

"It´s fundamental that we do only exist in our own universe. When you like Pet Shop Boys, you are in our world. This is absolutely crucial to our entire outlook...what we do has an incredibly strong identity and applies only to us. It´s a case of not recognising the existence of anybody else!". Neil Tennant.

Thats the best way to look at this news.my god I cant believe some of my fellow fans are actually up in arms about this,a new PSB single coming.and on some weird level too.its almost like some are more worried about how a song will affect the groups overall image in relation to a CD thats coming in 2006.unless you are a paid advisor to the PSB just relax and enjoy the new song.I like the song.its got a sort of beautiful and elegant sound to it.and that was a bad audio quality version I heard.

Seconded. This isn't 1989 when they could release It's alright as a single between albums or even 1997 when they released Somewhere for some reason or other (residency? bilingual rip-off edition? as a bona fide Gay Mafia anthem?)

I can't see the proles suddenly embracing Potemkin when they hardly lapped up PopArt. Just release the album.

Did you even read my post before you decided to quote it?
Where did I say they should release a ring tone?
All I was trying to point out is, that the tread should not turn into one of those Erasure "how do we get the song played on the radio" threads, because as you say, the general public aren't interested.
I never knocked the song, and I did write that I'm looking forward to the single.

Interesting news. Looks like they've learned their lesson from the commercial disaster named Disco 3. You need a single to promote your album. Perhaps they should have picked After All, but No Time For Tears is an OK track too. It won't have a massive commercial appeal, but knowing the large PSB fanbase, it will easily hit the UK Top 20, creating some attention for the album.
