Apparently sometimes there is an warning about a minute before an earthquake strikes, but that it about it. The alarms ring on people's mobile phones in Japan to alert them that an earthquake might be imminent. I suppose it might be just enough time to open the front door and turn off the gas etc. Mind you, whenever I have been in earthquakes time seems to stand still and it is hard to take on board what is happening.

Do you ever get used to them if you have experienced them before? That one we had here was 5.3 and i shit myself. Japan's are usually bigger than that, aren't they?

Earthquakes happen very, very frequently in Japan, but I never got used to them. I used to have earthquake nightmares quite frequently when I lived there. One thing I did learn is that if you feel like the earth is moving from side-to-side then it probably isn't too serious, whereas an up-and-down motion means it is a big one. Actually, the worst earthquake I ever felt was when I went to Taiwan for a few days on holiday from Japan - the earthquake seemed to last for ages and I did wonder for a few seconds if my number was up. I think that was about a 6.0. Today's earthquake and aftershocks are just off the scale though - it must have been absolutely terrifying around Sendai. There have been massive aftershocks all over the country too. I don't know what anyone can do about tsunamis though as they come in so fast that it is almost impossible to escape.

earthquakes predicted, and someday soon, a total eclipse of the sun and the moon.

I saw some jawdropping video with some guy on the ground and in the distance you see a huge wave rear up above the houses in the distance.

I live near the Finish Gulf, in Saint-Petersburg and now I think it's so good to live in the center of Russia, somewhere in Ural... No seas or ocean... Even in Saint-Petersburg few weeks ago people felt some earthquakes...

Can't we start an extra topic as it's only about the earthquake in here?

Just for the sake of completeness!

I cut my thumb today and I wrapped it properly so I can't clean the windows
today (what a pity ) and I shouldn't go swimming.

Oh, and I fixed the next exhibition in autumn. 8)

well it was interesting, it was a beautiful sunshine day and you
moved around and used your brain. Now I'm hungry, only had my

I got a 21,5" HDTV monitor for the PC which can be used as TV flat screen
(1920 x 1080) as well. It's very cool, just watched footy. 8)

I'm dog sitting for a friend. He's been good at my place but when I leave him back at my friends apartment if I have to do something for a short time he's been acting out so that's been fun...
