This is not true.

The band have never split up, and while it's true that Graham left in 2002, all 4 original members are hitting the studio in September.

The lack of news on OS meant that nothing was being done for Disco 4, so it means there was no new material or new remixes on there. It was PSB plan, independent of EMI / Parlophone situation. Anyway EMI might've loved the fact it was a no money spent release.

I don't agree with your conclusion that Integral was 'never meant' to be released as a single. It's safe to assume that it was AT LEAST considered, perhaps even prepared.

Regular Parlophone catalog numbers are available for the cd-single (CDRS6748) and the twelve-inch (12R6748). The video was also shot because of the single release; not to put it on YouTube only.

It was NOT a PSB plan NOT to release another single. I'm quite sure and confident that PSB would have loved to release another single, but Parlophone cancelled the idea. I consider this cancellation pure idiocy, considering the fact that a video was already shot!

Although Disco 4 as an albuim wont be available to download, surely the new remix of Integral will be (from Sept 17th?). No licensing issues there.
If that's the case Integral should be eligible to chart, with the new rules allowing individual tracks to qualify whether officially 'released' as singles or not.

very good point, although of course most people how buy psb singles are fans and do so for the b-sides, but perhaps you're right and this is their thinking

I'm quite certain the reasoning behind is to have fans buying the album (Ł9.99) instead of the single (Ł1.99). They could have done a download-only release, like -- Integral (remix edit)/Fugitive (7" edit)/Integral (live from Cubism)/Integral (full remix), which would cost them more or less nothing, but it would kill any chances for Disco 4, which may I remind you includes ONE unreleased track, to chart in top 200...

May I remind you that it actually contains one unreleased mix of a released track.

They could have released the single and kept the PSB mix of Integral exclusive to D4.

Well, there is a difference between "one out of four remixes is not available anywhere else" and "the only existing remix, as used in the video, is available only on the album"... Really, if you could get a single with 3 remixes and there was an additional 4th one on the album, would you be bothered?

Not necessarily, but when the song "Integral" is concerned: Yes!!

In a short article on the newspaper called El Periódico they talk about Disco 4 and they state that Pet Shop Boys have sold over 50 million records. Aren't those figures a little optimistic?

No! 50 mill should be the actual count now! I remember around 24/30 mill after 'Nightlife' has passed (1999). And after "Popart" they now should have selled between 45 and 55 Millions...

Err, if they were at 24m with Nightlife, I can't believe they sold additional 26m since then o_O Maybe they also count singles?
