The constant whirlpool of Imperial talk is exacerbated by them (to this day) banging on about singles and charts.

But to be fair to them, their focus is on crafting their idea of beautiful albums and singles. This doesn't necessarily mean they prioritize modern charts and sales anymore (although it's obviously a concern).

They just enjoy creating products, and probably indulge in that slipstream to a memory of the 80s and 90s. They have their formulas and they enjoy it. And hell, they're still quite successful - many thousands of modern bands would kill for their ability for exposure, let alone being able to fill an album with interesting craft.

Probably not healthy for us to be constantly comparing. Often I'll hear a new PSB track and think "wow, this might of done well on album X, back in the days when the world was a bit saner", and leave it at that.

to me :

pet shop boys = chart hits

if they hadn't had a hit with west end girls or opportunities (after 3 tries), i probably would have never
heard about them, and they would have just been another hidden gem or synth duo.

they were the definition of a UK pop band, much like erasure, blancmange, heaven 17,
the human league and more.

i doubt i would have heard of actually, or behaviour either.

they focused on the charts early on, and it worked well.

the singles, the artwork, the remixes, it all did a great job, until it didn't.

i agree, very was the last big thing from them, and there were a lot of peaks,
and dips getting there.

after that, chart history didn't matter much to them or to me.

The film came out two months before Domino Dancing. I think it's fair to say their imperial phase was over.

They're from an era when the charts mattered, and they find it interesting. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

An awful lot of pop music is packaging. Monkey Business by a younger group would have been a hit. You see this all the time with older artists - Kylie's Magic would have been a huge hit sung by Dua Lipa or someone. It's just the way it is.

I only discovered these a couple of days ago. I've calculated that if they release one every weekday then West End girls will land the day before Smash is released which is pretty imaginative way of counting down.

I wish the white vinyl were available. They should make more of them, clearly there's enough of a demand.

I’m hoping there may be a couple of new remixes of some of the singles near to album release

That's pathetic. Shows what a disconnect there is between them and the people who do their social media stuff. I've noticed a couple of other errors with release dates. See Minimal and Monkey business.

Well, as a single Monkey Business was released 2nd January. As well as Dreamland was released 11 September. But their CDs were released 7th February and 25th October.

As for Minimal release date, it's really mistake here. It was released 24th July. I remember because it was my Birthday :)

Oh, geez, The Pop Kids also shows incorrect date (27th May)

Given their definition of what a proper single is, a CD released in the UK, then you'd think they'd be consistent. I hadn't noticed those other two errors.

Are we sure they're not still with EMI?

Why there is no new HD upgrade video for Go West ? does it have something in common with current war situation ?
