the Rough Mix is a much overlooked version of this song. Love that mix.

That rough mix is still one of my favourite tracks. A great use of both voices.

Track 28: A New Life

Chronology: Actually, Further listening Track 8

B-side to What Have I Done, and like the lead song, a co-written track, which I think makes it the only single release where the boys don't have sole credit on any of the related tracks. Helena Springs, who they co-wrote A New Life with, also provided the backing vocals on You Know Where You Went Wrong.

Another great escapism track, about wanting to get away from your current relationship, and find a new life / love elsewhere. The keyboard melody is really catchy, and the pre-chorus section is especially uplifting and beautiful. 'The night goes by
leaving you behind me as I fly....'

Lovely.

Haven't listened to this in a while. From a 2024 context, it's got Netflix end of season closing scene written all over it.

I always forget this song exists. It has a strong melody though.

Helena Springs was once Bob Bylan's girlfriend/lover/mistress... can't remember the story quite but I think he left his wife for her or something. She's on West End girls as well.
Years ago I did my own 7'' mix of this by cutting part of the intro and outro... I think the song should start with Neil's "At night it hits me...", such a great voice and lyric there.

A New Life is a top 10 track for me. Just don't ask me what the other 9 are bc it's impossible.

There's something about the 12" cover of the boys on the bike that screams summer vibes and A New Life to me, everytime.

The first time some one else sings a a song written by them, the first time they resing it.

I prefer the PSB version, which is one of my favourite songs!

How do you get to heaven if you never try?

Left to my own devices, I probably would...

I hate to admit it since it seems this song is a fan favorite but I've never liked it. I find it dull.

Heh... cool info, I never knew she did her own version of the song.

Here's her version from 1987 called "New Love"

I wonder why the rough mix of you know where you went wrong is not on further listening for Actually?

I'm assuming the only place you can find it is on the flip of the It's a sin remix 12" ..?
