The idea that this is meant to be a love song to/about terrorists is nauseating. Someone please point out where Neil ever declared this.
Neil hasn't commented on the song, but the double meaning is eveident in the lyrics which are full of the jargon that the terrorists usually use to validate their actions: "clean and prepared" for instance describes the way suicide bombers have to be before embarking on their mission. Plus all the references to "heaven", "fight", "free and released", "power" etc. Plus there's of course the plane sounds in the beginning and in the end.
As a pure love/friendship lyric it would be hopelessly clunky and clumsy and very unlike what Neil usually writes.

And it's the opening track of a CD calle 'Fundamentalism'.
THIS IS the ANTI TRACK to I'm With Stupid, don't you see?
Both have their love couples, airplane in the middle.
Blair flyies across the ocean to see Bush, the suiciders "to see each other in heaven".
Stupid being the first single, Fugitive being the opener of the darker album...
Talk about political balance...
I'm sure english speakers will find a better way to say what i'm thinking.
Or I am alone in this? Talk to me... I love you...

fantastic song!!
Now is the time of our lives
but it won't last long
we're strong
and in spite of the fight
you sing this song
It's always a new day in heaven
there's always a new way to heaven
You, my brother
I'm really gonna miss you
You, my brother
You're going to take me with you
You, my brother
Where do we stand
in this land
we're invisible now
clean and prepared
to be led into visible
I know that it won't be that long
until the hour
free and released
from the world
it feels like power
You, my brother
I'm really gonna miss you
You, my brother
You're going to take me with you
It seems like light years had passed since i heard as many really excellent psb tracks in a row again, what a satisfaction! I love Fugitive! Any soul here knows what the song is all about? The escapist and brotherhood theme of it reminds me their friend's Elton John's "Daniel", one my fave songs ('Daniel is travelling tonight on a plane / Daniel my brother you are older than me / Daniel you're a star in the face of the sky / Lord I miss Daniel, oh I miss him so much), and isn't that the deafening sound of an approaching landing plane you hear at the begining of the track..??!
Whatever, fantastic track! Ages before my head would get rid of the chorus!
I think it's about suicide bombers/terrorists...
Well, the Boys might be morose but not to that extent I believe...
While he says "stupid is a different kind of smart" (Bush and Blair being the sinister ones, actually a hell behind smiling faces), here he tells us that their enemies (hijackers, terrorists, suicide bombers, whatever you say) are a little silly or *innocent* (STUPID) behind the idea of a Heaven (do PSB believe in god?) after suicide bombing and killing innocent people; can be a romantic view (very controversial) about them or just putting the two faces of this "war" in a clever game of contrast.
Please notice that I dont remember/find/know better words in english for the underline sentence (don't want to be controversial about that, just trying to explain the idea).
Wonderfull track. The should also do a more classical rendition of it with an orchestra. Such a beautiful track! Perhaps an album, 'Classical Pet shop boys' with studio recordings of the arrangements they did for the BBC
I wonder if he saw that show that was on HBO "the hamburg cell". it showed some of the hijackers shaving body hair and talking about how it was neccesary before the attack.
it is about the hijackers I am pretty sure. as long as somethings done well and intelligently there should be no problem.few things should be offlimits. I would rather have a controversial song over some random musings on love if the musics tight.and it is.
It's a tribute to the romantic bravery of the 9/11 hijackers.
Never mind the men, women, and infants aboard those planes, their pain and terror when they knew their fates.
This is what "Fuigitive" is about?
Romanticizing murderers, who slit pilots' throats, to traumatize the world and my city, NYC.
I'm shaken. I am blown away that Neil Tennant wrote such a song, no matter how badly he hates Bush. There's millions of us who do as well. And November elections are coming..
Martin Amis wrote a story for the New Yorker magazine, "The Last Day of Muhammed Atta".
It's fairly scorching in its characterizations. On the contrary, "Fugitive" is an ecstatic meditation, highly sympathetic, to the presumably high ideals of thise murderers.
Apparently Neil is too above it all when he romanticizes what it takes to slit a man's throat and crash the planes into buildings.
If PSB and Neil Tennant wants to characterize, and romanticize, the 9/11 hijackers as heroes, it's his right to do so.
But I am utterly shaken and nauseated that PSB thought they should do so.
I'm extremely disgusted, but perhaps that was the pointless f*** point.
Martin Amis beat you to it Neil. Fusk!~ I liked the song but it makes me sick to hear it now.
