It may be an uban myth, but I understood only one of the Village People was actually gay. I'm sure their Bob Saunders-like svengali was though. (Jaques Morali? I'm not sure whether this was due to the strength of their material and how it coinicided with the "pop" sound going on in the US at the time or the perception of their sexuality...

In fact the members of Village People were not gay. I've read and heard somewhere that all of them were straight men. What does it matter, as long as the music is great! I am heterosexual myself, but my record collection does in fact include a big lot of "gay" music: PSB, Erasure, Magnetic Fields, Queen, R.E.M., Rufus Wainwright, Morrissey (whatever he is...) + I like ABBA and Eurovision Song Contest...

I wonder why I always start to like artists who are or have been treated as "uncool". Perhaps it's because I don't like ROCK music. I'm looking for a completely different credibility. And I hope that Neil and Chris hate rock music enough never to make it themselves...!
