Yeah I have some sympathies with what you're saying, but at the 1986 show, and even though they'd only released two albums, Wham! were specifically given the award because they were the first band to play China (and they'd just announced they were splitting, which helped!). They shared it with Elton, who had played Russia, although that part always seemed something of an afterthought, seeing as it was eight years after the event.

The Police obviously got it the year before as they'd just split up. In fact I can't remember if all three actually turned up to received the prestigious doorstops or not.

As for the unsavoury Spices, well, as Morrissey once said, it's "indiscussable."

I'd certainly place Eurythmics a lot higher than Erasure in terms of impact, sales, success in the US, diversity, vocals etc, but, yeah, part of the reason they got the Brit when they did was that they'd just reformed and no one knew how temporary it was, least of all them. They'd originally planned on just two new recordings for an updated Greatest Hits to tie-in with the award, but, instead, the Peace album followed The Brits about eight months later.

People were assuming that the release was planned for November - but Vince and Andy forced them at gunpoint to change this release date to spite their enemies lol. I think the only one embarrassing himself is you, my friend. And can you not make a point without hurdling an insult just once, or not trying to get the crowd to cheer like a 14 year old girl on a popularity rampage?

in all of loins posts i havent actually noticed anything to suggest he hates erasure. it's all been very factual and reasoned. would say its highly likely he doesnt rate them in the same league as psb but no mention of hate.

Factual and reasoned? Hardly that is it? Apparently because Erasure have not been that succesful since the mid 90's (exactly like the PSB!) they don't deserve an award? Are groups only judged after that period? Obviously not! And the Madonna remix? Who gives a f**k! hardly deserving of a brit! Was the Robbie collaboration really a hit? No. Not even worth mentioning the others to be honest, but it doesn't matter does it? It's all about the music, oh wait, unless your Erasure!

makes a point. this is really a bizzare argument anyways. PSB/erasure, its really a case of apples and oranges in the big picture sense.

In case it's slipped your mind, once again, the last five Erasure albums reached 45, 17, 27, 102 and 29, whereas all of the PSBs reached the top ten.

Anything additional that PSB can do to keep their profile at a reasonable level helps, that includes a co-write on the current No.1 album from the biggest girl group in Britain, and, yep, a mere remix for the biggest female singer in the world. Still, at least Cyndi Lauper wanted to work with Erasure so they weren't completely left out on the femme fatale front.

the trouble with that thinking is,if you decide who is worthy on the sales of their last few CD's ,rather than look at the longevity of their creating music stretching over a long history then I think you'll find possibly even past winners didnt deserve the award at the point they recieved the award.

Great stats again and nice try but you've included Union Street which is actually not a studio album but an acoustic album which reached 102, Also you forget the Erasure album released in 1995 that reached 14 and Cowboy released in 1997 that reached 10. Not too bad wouldn't you say?
Oh and Disco 3 reached a fabulous 36 and concrete 61. SO much better than Erasure!!!!!

Oh and CTH got to 107 and Battleship Potemkin 97 so you might want to make sure you eliminate the PSB side projects from your examples of how much better they chart.
Wouldn't you look at the last two greatest hits chart placings as well? Erasure 15 and the PSB 30. Hardly top 10 there. In fact Erasure were 15 places higher. But does not matter because they didn't remix Madonna!!!!!!

Posthumous awards to Mercury and Lennon aside, every musical act bar the Beatles and Geldof (who was basically awarded for his charitable projects the year after Live Eight) was still a going concern at the time, either capable of having top ten albums and/or filling out large arenas and/or stadiums. The same does not apply to Erasure, who have had one solitary top ten album since their last chart-topper almost 15 years ago, Cowboy a brief No.10 in 1997.

whatever same idea. I mean looking at that list there are some deserving artists obviously, but come on, erasure woulnt be out of place with some of that lot.

if you consider even one a weak link in that list,(and quite frankly I see at least 4) then throw erasure on.

I mean, tom jones.....come on.

Obviously you are unaware of Pulse's (a.k.a Stephano) bitterness. If you do a search, you will see no end of onslaughts aimed at PSB. At the end of the day though, it just comes down to bittterness again. PSB are getting the biggest award in British music and he cannot accept it. Still, these cameo performances he makes on here all makes for good entertainment. You have to feel slightly sorry for him though. He made a video free of charge for Erasure but they chose to release a video of Andy just sat on a toilet

His posts are so obvious. You just know he will try and put PSB down at every opportunity but then add a little compliment at the end, hoping that people cannot see straight through his envious rants.

How is Fugitive groundbreaking? AND "Integral"? Groundbreaking?? Give your head a shake, man. They may be good songs but hardly groundbreaking. This is one of the first times that I actually think you've completely lost the plot. You're usually rather snipey, bitter, misinformed, repetitious, personal, low, and bellicose, but this time...
