When Mexico won we bought tickets to what according the BBC website was going to be Mexico vs. Japan at Old Trafford, only they screwed up and that match will be played at Wembley. Could Team GB redeem the screw up and let me at least watch them play Brazil? Could they ****!

Just an olympic naming standards question - why they list "Team GB", "Team USA", "Team Australia" (e.g. here - http://london2012.bbc.co.uk/basketball/ ... index.html), rather than "GB", "USA", "Australia"?

Fox News Doesn’t Think Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas Is Patriotic Enough

Fox News never fails to disappoint. Gabby Douglas winning the gold as a gymnast isn't enough, Fox thinks she's possibly traitorously un-American because her outfit was lilac, and not red white and blue, which we all know are colors reserved especially for American exceptionalism. No other country uses those colors! It's not enough that this young athlete has worked her life and heart out to get to London, or that her dad is in the US military. Or that she won the damned gold medal. No, she wore lilac, and didn't wrap herself in the flag, so she might possibly be one of those fist-bumping traitors. The fact that she's African-American has nothing to do with their criticism of this young girl who won the fvckin g gold. Fox News is an utterly evil pox on the land, just actively malevolent and horrible.


In other things: even curmudgeonly Charlie Brooker at the Guardian has found that his deep-seated cynical nature about the 2012 games has been overcome, watching some of it. I'm in that camp, too. Even though the coverage here is terrible and NBC sucks, the games and competitions do draw you in. Your hard heart softens a bit. I've even grudgingly come around to liking "Winner". Just enough, back off! You have to hand it to all the athletes, they all worked hard to get there. Like Charlie, like a lot of people, it's turned out to be way more absorbing television than we thought it would be . Human interest, and all that. It's better than we'd thought it would be, isn't it? Good job London, and England. And screw you, Romney. Lol.

Delighted for Mexico. I had a feeling they'd win it. The Brazilians have got to learn that a rich tradition does not equate to eternal number one status.

I suspect Menezes will be sacked now. It's lunacy, really. The new guy will then have two years to prepare a team for the World Cup. Why do I feel the officials will be key to the outcome in 2014?
