This is Exactly my POINT !! It doesn't matter which Government is in power....Terrorists are Criminals and HIDE behind Politics and Religion. Its their way of an Excuse for what they do, AND of course thankfully most people can see them for what they are......Terrorists. Not Martyrs.

Al qaeda is so much worse than ETA..now they are togueter f*** Spain...I think they will do other attack the next thursday because here is the "semana santa" and that day is the day with more people in the street,I am sure some of them will be in the street with the bombs in their bodies....I fear to see TV This is the second and they will still doing this,they put a bomb in a train again but the police found.They want to kill more people,they dont mind to die in the attack the only important to them is kill ..and all of this because we help to IRAK..be ready because the next will be england

If you think this is because of the support for Iraq war.....you are WRONG !! Terrorism started LONG BEFORE the Iraq war ! The 'Bali' bombing and Sept 11th in the USA were BEFORE the Iraq war ! This is Terrorism by Criminals and it is Worldwide.....not only in Spain ! The thing is to OPPOSE Terrorism....NOT Appease It !!

Terrorism, in all its forms, has been around as long as Human kind have walked this Planet! Never has it been so prominent as it is today, thanks to the Internet I suppose. as it zaps images around our planet in the blink of an eye!

No, it will end when the "western world" gets off its ass and supplies decent aid packages to some of these countries to help them get their infrastructure and educational systems right so that the economy can absorb the legions of young males that presently are un or underemployed and havent anything better to do and are hopeless for the future and so turn to extremism. It also doesnt help that many students go to "schools" where at least a skewed version of the Koran is taught as part of the curriculum. Terrorism provides them an outlet and a "voice" in the world in situations where they either havent an established, truly recognized government, or feel neglected by the one that they have. Islam and the Middle Eastern world used to be some of the advanced in the world in terms of education and scientific discovery, but its been on a downward trajectory, and dragging its people with it, given the takeover by the religious zealots in all aspects of life.

By the way, unless something is done to help these countries and to provide a better future in a DECENT HUMANE way it will only get worse. The cohort of men under 30 in the muslim world is ENORMOUS.

Amhilde (or indeed anyone) have you read a book called 'What Went Wrong?: The Clash Between Islam and Modernity in the Middle East' by Bernard Lewis - it's very interesting and covers how, as you said, Islam/ Middle East was at the forefront of discovery etc. then it all changed

I´ve heard the news today, and it´s been said the terrorists who killed themselves in Leganés Madrid, had planned to make the same as 11 March in Madrid again.

True story:

In Holland last week we heard a rumour that Al Q were planning to bomb Amsterdam's Centraaaal Station on Queen's Day (Friday) so we decided to drive instead.

When we had left A'dam on Friday night and were on our way clubbing in Brussels I said to my pal "So no bomb then, that's good news. I thought if it was a rumour then it probably wouldn't happen, as terrorists love the element of suprise. I bet you any money though, that they will target Athens, what with the olympics."
