...moderator of one Erasure forum got "Super" today and has a mixed feelings ("5/10") about it.

While I really appreciate A&V's latest output (putting aside crude "Snow Globe", their last two studio albums are quite good and "Nightbird" was fantastic) and Erasure is among my most favourite bands, I never understand why some fans of Pet Shop Boys and some fans of Erasure so loftily negative about work of nominally "rival duo"? Especially when both Neil and Andy had already stated on various occassions that there are no rivalry between two duos, it's nothing but a stereotypical fiction introduced by musical press.

The same guy who said he was playing PSB a few years ago and his kids said ''can you turn his crap off and put Erasure on.'' Very professional to have a hater of a band allowed to review an album lol

They have become beyond bitter. Its more than jealousy now and i've no idea why. Their forum is probably the worst i've seen on the internet as well. It used to be decent. Now theres at least 30 sub sections and its virtually impossible to navigate.

You have obviously not listened to their albums post 1992, most of which are excellent. And please defined the word "irrelevant".

Ultimate by PSB had the first 10 tracks from Discography (and personally I think it should have had more as it left off Opportunities, Rent and So Hard). That of course meant that ony 9 songs were selected from the next 19 years so not that different really. 10 tracks from the first 6 years and 9 from the following 19. Does that make PSB "irrelevant"? I bet you wouldn't agree with that and neither would I.

I personally believe that PSBs Discography and Erasure's Pop both contain the best work of them both by a country mile and that neither of them have created such a constant amount of quality track since. That is just my view of course. Doesn't mean they are any less or more relevant though as far as I'm concerned which is a strange way to look at things. If you are judging whether a group is relevant or not by hit single then they are certainly both irrelevant but it is the charts that are irrelevant in my opinion now, not PSB or Erasure.

They have released about 7 or 8 hits packages havent they? Its ridiculous. Although PSB's catalogue is a lot better imo than Erasures post 1992, these releases used to be aimed at the casuals. I'm not so sure anymore.

Erasure have some of the best pop songs you could ask for but how many times can you release them? Once you've bought them, youve bought them.

Without doubt too many greatest hits compilations have been released, The reason I don't mind them personally is because of the nice limited edition releases that normally come along with them which has meant things like The Top of the pops performances DVD's from both groups and also remix cd's.

What we have to realise here too is that certainly in Erasure's case it is the record label that chose to release these best of compilatons not the group themselves and I know this as it was said in interviews with them. I'm pretty sure it was the same for Pet Shop Boys with ultimate.

PSb have released quite a few compilations themselves including imports, 6 in total: Discography, Essential, PopArt, Party, Story, Ultimate and Erasure also 6 with Pop, The Hits, Total Pop (Including Pop 2), Essential, 10 Great Songs and Always. This is also not taking into consideration cd single compilations (Erasure), B-side compilations (PSB) or remix compilation albums (PSB Disco series). All in all not much difference between each group it has to be said.

For me Discography and Pop are the best singles compilations around, I don't favour one over the other and they are both packed with amazing songs. Pet Shop Boys have never released a proper second "Best of" following from Discography in chronological order and having done one myself I have to be honest and say that like Discography and Pop for me there is absolutely nothing between Discography 2 and Pop 2. Obviously the majority of people on this site will always say PSB are best and vice versa on the Erasure forum but I am completely neutral and love both groups the same so have no bias. I simply cannot put anything between them and that is me being honest.

Don't understand why people still make a point of Erasure's best of releases when PSB's are very similar in number. But maybe it's just me!

Anyone have any thoughts on the £85 13 disc box set? I was interested but apart from the demos on the rare disc, there's not much I don't already have.
