They are not choosing remixers based on what you or any one else likes, but what will get them the most exposure. If you like it great ! If not, too bad. That's just the way it is.

That's fine, my question though is that getting played in a few random underground clubs is hardly getting them much exposure is it? And that is perhaps the difference between them and Erasure, whom it seems are bothered about pleasing the fans and giving them a good product rather than releasing a 12" single at a tenner with remixes made for underground clubs and perhaps non fans! How many people are buying this based on hearing one of the remixes in a club anyway? And if it is a promotional tool for the album then wouldn't they be disappointed as the remixes have nothing to do with the album and the natural PSB sound whatsoever anyway! Sorry but I don't get it, surely they should be releasing singles with hardcore fans in mind as we are the ones buying them at the end of the day and will stop doing so if they continue to be crap! I don't get the logic? It is disappointing when we are getting remixes to songs which have such brilliant potential. Look at Disco! Wonderful remix album, using big names such as Shep Pettibone, quite clearly time has changed and some remixes are simply not remixes anymore in my opinion but tracks by fashionable DJs!
Anyway, well done Erasure for releasing excellent fan pleasing remixes which I listen to a lot, and I'm sure there are clubs that will appreciate them too, they have also done pretty well in the history of the USA billboard dance charts too at number 19 with PSB in 5th place so not much in it really.

I to loved Shep Pettibones mixes, he was excellent, no question about it. But remix culture has changed a lot, so some people will not like the way it has changed, and you could definitely argue the point that sometimes it has little to do with the Pet Shop Boys (DJ Pierrre ?) A lot of clubs play very specific kinds of music, so PSB have different styles of remixes made so they can suit the different clubs. Chris more han Neil I suspect really loves dance music, If you go through Literally and check out his 5 favorite tracks from each Literally, you will find lots of different styles of dance music, though house music is prominent. He really loves dance music. As you mentioned PSB is at #5 in Billboards all time list, which is fantastic!

And Erasure # 19, which is very respectable, but PSB at#5 is outstanding.

By the way have you heard the new Erasure album ? I am a bit disappointed with what I have heard so far. I really liked The Violet Flame, even though I thought "Sacred" was a bit of a ripoff off"Vocal" Well Andy has stated that Electric was an inspiration. And 'Snowglobe" was great. I have the lavish box.

And yes I used to work in the bizz, and I have met people that bought PSB remixes based on what they heard in a club.

I once heard a couple of tracks from Relentless at a club that played psychedelic type trance music. They sounded great on the massive sound system. On that note am I the only one who finds it irritating that their most dance oriented album was never commercially rleased on vinyl.

well at the time of release vinyl wasn't too popular anymore so they just released it on DJ vinyl promos which seemed to meet the demand for that particular unpopular format at the time

This week Erasure were guests on the One show on BBC 1, during the episode the big question came up is it ok to be a fan of both Pet Shop Boys and Erasure, to which Andy said it was. He was also very complimentary about them.

I think the songs on the new Erasure album are pretty good, no real standout song, but and it is a big but, the album is ruined by the sound quality, a lot of the tracks sounds slightly muffled, some worse than others and the production on the vocals is diabolical, Andy Bell sounds like he has developed a bad lisp!! Check the title track and "A Bitter Parting".

Checked the files and they have been brick walled to death, that probably explains the poor sound quality.

It has the makings of a good album, definitely a different side of Erasure, however, like so many other releases these days it is ruined by the sound quality.

Clearly no one listened to the final mastered recordings before pressing the album, record companies need to go back to basics......quality control seems to have disappeared from these establishments!!

I've listened to it once and pretty quickly. I wondered what was up with his voice. He usually as a nice choir sound to his vocals but they arent as good as usual. I felt the songs were decent. Most of them anyway. The single is massive blot on the album. Also felt many intro's sounded similar but all in all its not bad so far.

I wonder what number the album will chart at?

Should be around 5-10. Only need about 6,000 sales for top 10. They always do that.

My thoughts exactly same thing happened to love boat. I can't even listen to it with all the distortion. I thought it was in my head at first and put on Chorus and wow what a difference.

The crass multiple use of word "baby" jars me every time.

That's a lot of jarring.

Got the orange vinyl in the mail from pledge today here in Sweden. Only had time to listen to it once, I really liked it. Its like a darker sibbling to I say x3. Cant understand why they choose to put Love you to the sky on the album though, It just dont fit in with the mood of the album. And its not very good either.

Feels like Erasure is back. This and Violet flame are imho up there with the best material they have produced like Wild, I say and the self titled.

Definatly a few decent songs in there. Is the sound quality ok on the vinyl? What ive heard, its appalling. Sounds like Andy has got dentures in.

The vinyl sounds alright to me. But then im not an audiophile, far from it. Will listen more closely tomorrow.
