It wasn't a case of pointing out sales in general. I was making the point that Erasure still had a steady fanbase 5 or 6 years ago and thats eroded quite quickly. Thats undoubtedly down to the lack of quality over the past decade. They have simply become fed up. How else can you describe how a loyal fanbase can dissapear like this?

Not that I want to seem as if I'm on the "other" side but how can you "know" that Erasure's fanbase, meaning in this instance I presume the hardcore-ish fans who will buy their latest album no matter what, has significantly dwindled over the decade? Loveboat came out nine years ago, and that sold even less than Light at the End of the World (at least initially).

Every album is selling less units than the last. LATEOTW even sold more in its first week than Pop40.

The singles especially are struggling. Also, Erasure fans were claiming that Pop40 struggled because the hardcore bought the Deluxe edition. That hasn't even sold 500 copies.

Plenty of copies in the bargain bin sometime soon then.

Really? Surely there was something of an increase after Loveboat though?

The box set was a bit of a misconception IMO. It will only appeal to people who will be prepared to spend over £30 on Erasure in one go, and such people will almost certainly have everything on the first two discs.

Oh, they bought it twice, did they?

Count me in as well. Only one copy though  . But to be honest muchachos, lots of you should rather be worrying about buying some more copies of Love etc. , so PSB don't make an Erasure next sunday  .

Oh no, it's safely in the top 200.

Nice one, but it should be safely top 10 by the PSB's standarts, don't you think so?

Actually, i think PSB fans realised back in 2006 that it would be very difficult for PSB to compete in the singles chart again but they are doing a decent job with Love etc.

As for PSB standards, the single is performing similar to how their first singles normally do. Not only that, on Tuesday, there was talk of this missing the top 40, so i'd say this single is doing alright. PSB are not going to compete with Beyonce, Lady GaGa and the other singles that are selling 30,000 copies every week. It's simply not going to happen.

It looks set to be the right side of 20, which is good enough.

Yeah, it looks set today but sales for fanbased groups tend to drop towards the weekend.

I just find it odd that a song written by Vince Clarke almost 30 years ago made it to #2 in the charts within one month or so of a song written by PSB (which struggled to reach #10), and even surpassed the chart peak (#6) of the PSB Comic Relief song when PSB were closer to their artistic/commercial peak. How odd. Now, the current PSB song is struggling to hold onto top 20 status in its first week after shedloads of publicity and money pumped into it.

Someone on here once said that Erasure were trying to ruin PSB's big day by releasing their GH in the same month, but in fact, Erasure peaked higher than PSB's initial number (meaning they bettered more bands at that given time, regardless of sales), and a Vince Clarke song ended up upstaging everyone in the end. Simply put: wow. Who would have thought?
