I like the video - it needed to be literal, with a less is more approach. The song , lyrics and video tell the story. What more do you need?

I can't tell if this is a joke but he was a BALLET DANCER. Of course the topic of the video will be his body and its movement, that's what he's known for. You can critique the lack of ideas, budget, lyrics, whatever you want really... BUT "USING THE BODY OF MEN LIKE BASIC ISSUE"? I'm sorry but that's not a critique, that's ignorance and a bit of internalized homophobia.

3) I understand the footages of Nureyev on this video but the problem is the big amount of videos they have, selling sex with males bodies. You can say there are a lot of rappers selling sex with female bodies. Yes, that's true in both cases. The lack of ideas and probably budget in videos of Pet Shop Boys nowadays is obvious. It's an arty boring video that goes nowhere.

Its not necessarily selling sex so much as that happens to the the style of apparel that ballet dancers wear which has always tended to be kind of skimpy.

I suspect there are many people who go to the ballet who are straight/gay and see beyond the costumes and enjoy the show for its purpose, dance. I suspect you just dont like to see males in skimpy clothing gyrating. I'm with you there Nickname.

This is probably going to sound really defensive and possibly rhetorical, but it’s not intended as such:

What video treatment would you have liked for this song? Specific concepts etc rather than vagueness.

We will miss them terribly when they retire……

I don't spot any sexual content in this music video at all, madam.

Moreover, it’s got a clear concept. It’s telling the story of the song, the location of N and C is set in a London theatre, it’s scenery and shots are rather elegant which fits the ballet scheme, and the cinematography is layered as is the song in terms of sound and meaning; additionally it’s intertwined with original footage of N. in cooperation with the N. foundation. Thus, you’re wrong. Sophistication doesn’t necessary has to be of high cost involved - although we don’t know about production costs; and I assume renting the whole theatre, employing a ballet dancer and the catering which is explicitly mentioned must be rather expensive.

Maybe you should question your viewing habits.

Well the video is way better than the Loneliness one even if clearly on a cheaper budget using old footage because Neil and Chris are in it much more and live up to the legend of Chris doing nothing, which he does so well. I'd love to hear an instrumental version, there's so much reminiscent of their early stuff, particularly West End girls. Shame the lyrics don't match up to normal standards this time which is a rarity, just all a bit cringeworthy fanboy IMO. Same emotion as for Queen's 'Song For Lennon', wimpy.

Edit: I've just realised what it is why I'm struggling with this song - one of the sheer joys of Neil's lyrics is that they usually have more layers than an onion. You can sit and unpick and interpret a track in multiple ways often, the depth is a defining characteristic I personally get so much pleasure from. This is simply one-dimensional and flat lyrically, nothing to ponder.
