I haven't gone in depth into the CD's yet, but the BluRay versions of the videos look like they've had some brutal upscaling software thrown at them - up to "Flamboyant" at least - everything looks pasty and waxy and false. If these were ever shot on film, it looks like they haven't gone back to the original film elements.

They got a message from the action man
I'm happy, I hope you're happy too

Even if the original material were shot on film, the editing was made on SD video for sure (we can see a lot of video effects and transitions mostry on the "Please" era videos).. so no HD masters of any kind ever existed for them. If they all look like their new Youtube versions, the only exception is "Always on my mind" but because they re-created it using footage from the recent HD remaster of the film, it´s not actually the original video but an "almost" exact re-creation.. with some minor differences...

telys wrote: Mon 19 Jun 2023, 5:20 pm Sorry, it's a 4:05-version on my player... which makes everything more confusing. There's a 3:55, a 4:05 and apparently a 4:10 version.
Thing is, these aren't different "versions" as I would think of them. I'll assume there's no 4:10 version, as I've no evidence of it. the other timings are simply 4-6 seconds shorter or longer than the original 3:59 CD single. The song fades out, so it's simply the same "version" of the song, but ever so slightly longer or shorter depending on when the engineer mastering each release decided to end the fade out. The track's so quiet at that point in the track, hardly any listeners would be likely to notice any difference.
as you said, the sound is so low on the last seconds that anybody will notice anything new, but I manually did a "counter-fade" with an audio software and there actually is a little more of sound effects and Neil singing at the end (one more verse and a new "maybe I..." in a different tone).

The old video's look horrible, I can't bear to watch them. But for newer video's, the blu ray is very good.

I wish one day they *would* go back to the original film for the old video's. I get that that would be expensive, but why only look at it from a commercial point of view? Why not spend a million and have an utterly glorious video document for the ages?

The blu ray really needed a new commentary didn’t it? I want to know Chris’s musings to post PopArt videos

Has anyone managed to rip the exclusive instrumental versions from the menus yet?

Once again the IOSS did NOT work.

So I had to pay VAT twice - again.

I just sent a payment claim to iossqueries@wmgcustomerservice.com

They are yet to refund for the annually as well - Its amazing how they get it wrong.

I guess the silver lining is that all of our PopArt DVDs haven't been rendered obsolete.
