But promos don't count (they are not sold by the label by their nature anyway)?

Nitpicking aside, I am proud to say that I picked 8 all along
BRAVO, BOYS, BRAVO !!!!!!
Indeed.

And well done to you too for predicting #8! As far as I'm concerned they got their news items completely the wrong way round. I would have liked to know about The Times a day or two ahead in order to be able to buy it, and I didn't want to find out the chart position early. Particularly because midweek updates were scarce this week and for once it would have made quite interesting listening.
After a midweek of 7, I really expected it to end at 11, so it's great to get a solid top ten hit - and beat all the other new releases at the same time. They should be, and I think they will be, pretty happy with that. Must be getting bored of top ten hits?! Plus, depending on how childish you're feeling, it's an added bonus that the new Beautiful South single enters at the worst position possible, 41 (I have a feeling they made some rude comment about PSB once.)!

I know! That was quite a shock that it didn't even make the Top 40. I'm registered over on the TBS forum and everyone is gutted about it on there! Mind you, the single wasn't exactly commercial...
I think the rude comment you're thinking of is when The Housemartins split when they wrote an open letter to the NME that said something like "In an age where Rick Astley and the Pet Shop Boys are having success, they (The Housemartins) were just not good enough". Something like that anyway....

A great achievement from PSB - higher than anything since Before, I think - or did Drunk make no. 8 by virtue of being released in the first week of Jan?

Knew that this would be their biggest single in ages. A dead cert for Top 10 when I first heard it a few weeks back

The only thing that did amaze me was some people in here knocking the single claiming it wasn't very good (yet I guess these same people rated New York city boy and the rest of Nightlife)?
Fundamentall is a good album but 'I'm With Stupid' is one of the main highlights. EMI got it right this time round. The initial choice of single would have bombed.

I'm soo pleased it got to number 8.
Fundamental is their best album in over a decade, for me. Although in my opinion I'm with stupid is one of it's weakest tracks, though I still like it a LOT.
YAY for Neil
YAY for Chris
And YAY for...er....MINIMAL being the next single ( top three... dead cert....well, one can hope )
