guys in my class at school got their hair permed to look like Neil. instead of talking about the homo eroticism in domino dancing they spoke of how sexy the girl in it was. i didnt start gettin the 'we dont like them cos theyre gay' till 'very' came out tho to many of the fans from previous they were dissappointed in behaviour foolishly and then went against them. u still get football casuals goin to the gigs and sayin how good they r because of the excellent fashion sense, leading the way. i think ignorant people will always say these things but really its not the main reason theyre not as popular nowadays. actually i think theyre slowly gaining legend status and thats a good thing gay or not.

The one time I have met Neil (Chris was there too but we didnt speak) was in Heaven on a Saturday night about a year ago. I chatted to Neil about this very issue and I remember him saying how frustrating it was and that people shouldn't categorise your music based upon sexuality. He seemed to be quite pissed off that PSB are seen as a "gay band" and that a lot of their fan base was in fact straight. It was at that point that I mentioned to Neil that I too was straight, despite being in Heaven on a Saturday night- the look on his face was priceless! I remember he said back, "well if, as you claim, you are straight then yes that proves my point!"
It shouldn't be an issue, but sadly today's media makes it one. I personally don't see what is so gay about PSB music apart from the obvious few songs (New York city boy, In Denial, If love were all etc). Dance music and disco crossed into the mainstream a very long time ago.

Perhaps it's because I don't like ROCK music.
Nah, it's cos you're a poof...

This thread reminds me there used to be really annoying person in high school who used to sing 'all day,all day, pet shop boys are gay' to the tune of Domino Dancing to wind me up. Despite the relentless mickey taking by my mates, most of them liked PSB.
For better or worse, they did make a rod for their own back with Very and Go West and that, not Neil's coming out, altered the general public's perception of PSB. All coming out did was give carte blanche to tabloid journalists to stick the prefix 'gay' and 'camp' in every PSB article. The wonderful Sun newspaper, in particular, being the main beneficiaries.

Actually I found out shortly after I discovered PSB... but I passed about it quickly and I loved them and I love them for their music.

I'm not completely sure what you mean here, as English isn't my native language. But if this term poof is used to mean gay, I must correct you as I am a straight female. I'm open-minded though and I'm more or less proud of my musical taste. I'm also extremely proud of Pet Shop Boys - they are and do what they like, and that's exactly why it's so easy to love them.

It does mean that yeah, although quite obviously I wasn't being serious. Just my idea of humour

I think we can all agree with that.

Good question, mate. And Queen because of Freddie, and ABBA because of... hmm, what really? Just "gay" music?
What about Judas Priest? I don't think they are considered gay, just because their lead singer, Rob Halford, came out as a homosexual some years ago... I guess it's just a matter what kind of music they play; heavy metal is considered very straight, whereas synth and disco is GAY.

How do you describe a girl who gets turned on by gay men?

Oh, the irony. In school my heavy metal -minded friends took the piss of me listening to "gay bands" like Depeche Mode, while Judas Priest was one of their favourites. Such a shame that Halford didn't out himself in 1986.

Funny question...

I don't get turned on by gay men in general, just by Neil! And even that is a one-way admiration, but that is a fan's purpose as I see it.

Is Neil Gay? He's been with lots of females before so is he not actually Bisexual?
Therefore you have a chance..
