If I remember correctly, these two demos were mastered and mixed especially for their 2001 release.

It’s probably heretical, but I prefer this to the Minnelli recording. There’s more room given to the wax and wane of electronics.

For me this is all about the pathos. And effectively so. Definately domestic abuse going on there.

Love this one. I thought it was especially well done as a duet for the performance tour. Yes, I am aware it was originally meant to be a duet.

Track 43 : One of the Crowd

Introspective Further Listening Disc 2 - Track 13

Chris takes the lead. This was definitely "a grower".

I can remember my first few listens to this track and not being impressed. Now it suits a certain mood.

Chris' biggest lyrical effort?

I always enjoy Chris's vocal appearances, but the effects are so heavy on this it's hard to understand the (quite clever) lyrics.

A little bit of vocoder is never a bad thing, but I find this is full on! One of their curate’s eggs?

Great song. Exactly what I want in a PSB track. I love the comments in the Alternative booklet where they were howling with laughter whilst listening to the song.

Huge coincidence that we've reached One of the crowd, as Chris' demo of Schlager reminds me of the vocoder effects in this track.

Track 44 : Your Funny Uncle

Introspective Further Listening Disc 2 - Track 15

Introspective Further Listening draws to a melancholy close.

Two minutes of beauty twinged with sadness.

Makes me tear up just thinking about it. The clarinet line was an inspired choice.

I think Your Funnny Uncle is another scene-setting masterpiece! It’s chock-a-block with details of stuffy reputability rubbing up against a more open society. A world captured in under two and a half minutes. The fact this is hidden away on a b-side perfectly illustrates what an embarrassment of riches the PSB catalogue is. Brilliant!

I agree with everything here. It's a beautiful evocation of an awful time. One of my favorite B-sides of all.
