TOTP masks - 23 April '06
Pet Shop Boys performed their new single, "I'm with Stupid" on "Top of the Pops" this evening on BBC2.
If anyone watching was wondering about the masks being worn by the dancers they were of Tony Blair, George W Bush, Bill Clinton, Vladímir Putin, David Cameron (current UK Conservative leader) and Mezies Cameron (current UK Liberal Democrat leader).
Originally there were three Tony Blairs and three George Bushs but the BBC insisted that for "political balance" the other UK political party leaders had to be shown and that there could be only one Blair and one Bush. Luckily Putin and Clinton masks were acquired from a party shop while PSB management and make-up staff made quick Cameron and Campbell masks from newspaper photographs!
That's kind of fabulous. The BBC are terrified of being accused of being anti-Blair since the Hutton whitewash, erm sorry, report.

Menzies Cameron though???!!! Ooh, Freudian slip, Neil!
Prick up your ears.

Talk about over-analysation! I don't go on other music forums but do all fans of acts rip everything their so called favourite artists do?
It was a 3 1/2 min performance on a TV show, no lives were lost, no one was hurt -apart from sad sacks who seem to allow everything the boys do to effect their lives. CHILL THE f*** OUT

Masks were tacky......the dance routine ridiculous, Neil was flat for some of it (Come on Neil, surely you can sing in tune to your backing voice!)

Don't release songs you can't sing on Top of the Pops....or just don't bother going on it anymore....no-one watches it anyway.

Completely uninspiring........

I can imagine that the BBC said you cant have a mask of Blair and Bush....you'll have to have all of them or none of them!

Would have been better having Neil and Chris with a video montage in the background of world leaders etc.... and Neil is much better when he is Neil the Pet Shop Boy rather than Neil the pop star doing silly hand movements and saying 'thank you top of the pops.....' And what is going on with those jeans???? They look like they are three sizes too long!!
I'm afraid I agree (though I think he was sharp rather than flat) - maybe that's why Neil preferred Minimal as the first single...

:x thank god someone said it -

the number of people in this thread who are in denial about the quality of Neil's singing - phew

Next you'll be telling me that 'Philadelphia' live is worthy of Sinatra

It was a bit dodgy at the start, which I found myself cringing at. Was really happy with the performance by the end though! After listening again there's only two notes that are really out of tune.

Yeah. It sounds more funny to hear Neil singing I'm with stupid live
