I thought there were sign's last season this would happen to Higgins. He seemed to be winning tournaments through pure adrenaline and determination, due to what he went through with the betting scam and his father dying. Higgin's is also going to be under suspicion every time me misses a dolly. No one will mention it though. The way the BBC obsess over him is embarrassing.

Gradually, the lower ranked players are improving because of more tournaments. They have gone from playing in 6, to something like 20+.

My tips were Ronnie and Ding but Neil Robertson is playing the best stuff so far.

Hazel is rather obsessed with the lady referees. Typical BBC; ooh look two women better than all those stupid men. As a woman with balls I object to her cooing.

Trump has started sinking his long pots. Great session; 5-3 to Carter. I think whoever wins the match-up between Ronnie and Robertson will win it.

Judd Trump 12-13 Ali carter. Judd was 12-9 up. Quite unbelievable match. Easily the best of the tournament.

That was one nervy final frame. Trump really should have taken that.

Oh yes, that was fantastic. I like the Captain; he's a good sport. That final frame was insane when Trump kept getting snookers. Proof of why snooker is such an incredible sport.

So is Trump the new Jimmy White destined never to win the world title? I know he's young and all that but he was like a rabbit in the headlights today.

He's far too cocky. He's done nothing in the game, yet he seems to think he's royalty.

I'm delighted he's gone - I'm all for self-confidence, but an over-active Twitter account and a bad haircut do not a world snooker champion make.

"I'm delighted to get through," Carter told BBC Sport. "All credit to Judd. He pots them from everywhere, but there's more to this game than potting balls from everywhere as I've shown today."

Carter was wrong, though. There's more to this game than potting balls from everywhere, an over-active Twitter account, a bad haircut, and annoyingly boorish yoof fans, as he's shown today.

My dark horse Matthew Stevens is through, I see. He can't be relied on, but he could meet Carter in the semis now if form means anything - which, as we should know by now, it doesn't. There's definitely an opening for these guys.

Robertson v. Ronnie has all the makings of a classic. Ronnie's playing well enough to win at the moment - but which one of the two Ronnies will turn up? I think Robertson can get into his head - but he can't afford to forget the other one.

It's also noticeable how Trump seldom taps the table in recognition of a good shot. He never used to do it at all before.

Trumps mates - one of them called Summers (or something like that) follow him around like lost dogs. Hanging onto his coat tails wanting that bit of recognition. Hangers on of the worst kind. They tried putting Robertson off in one tournament this year. Might have been the U.K.

Trump will never be a White, Higgins or O'Sullivan. Not a chance.

O'Sullivan's touch at the moment is as good as it can be. Pure class.

Carter's post-match interview is bizarre:

Trump's problem isn't that he goes for tough pots all the time, his problem is that he hits shots far too hard. This is why he gets away with a lot of misses as well but he needs more control. Ali played well but Trump gifted him the match.

Didn't realise he doesn't apologise for flukes but it doesn't surprise me because of his reluctance to acknowledge good shots. He's only a kid though. Maybe someone needs to offer him a bit of advice.

Carter also likes to gob off a lot. Constantly slagging off Joe Johnson especially. Although he's probably the most irritating commentator going. We really don't want to hear him smacking his lips down the mic all the time. Mike Hallett and Willie Thorne are also both irritating.

Hendry is playing like Colin Hendry.
