Re: Where is the oddest public place you've heard a PSB song?

At the New Order concert tonight.
I arrived about 20 minutes before it was due to start. After I got through the gates, I could hear music in the distance, only the bass and beat was audible. I recognised it. I got a little closer and could hear some of the synth, then after paying attention the vocals.
I thought for a second it was the Boy Harsher remix of New London Boy, but it was the Alex Metric remix of A New Bohemia!
Pretty nice to hear it, and seeing people grooving to it. Especially as the first moment upon arriving to the venue.
New Order played at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl so it's basically in the middle of a park, and I've been to the park (Royal Botanical Gardens) a number of times without any music playing. So being there with PSB being played loudly and New Order fans everywhere was a nice little experience.

Nice! How were NO?
I've been rather disappointed with them live the past couple of times.

The weather was good for an outdoor concert. I didn't go, because I'm too lazy for such things, but a friend of mine snaffled one of the set-lists from the Perth show and it revealed a few interesting selections, beyond the generic (and somewhat predictable) New Order set-list.
I wonder if New Order have a hand in the pre-gig song selection or not.
Retro.

My wife and myself were in New York, we walked over Brooklyn Bridge and around Brooklyn area when we got a little lost. We walked down this street near Manhattan Bridge when we heard West End girls playing. It was a group of people chilling outside a building so we commented on the good music and they shouted back thanks guys, a really cool experience.

Last year I passed by a hangout inside a trendy place called Mood Stockholm, they have a live dj there: Nothing has been proved (dance mix) by Dusty Springfield was playing. I needed to just stop and recover from the shock and enjoy it. Sounded so good on their loudspeakers.

Last year I heard âAlways on my mindâ playing in the Village Market in Decatur, MI. Decatur is a rural village in southwest Michigan about 120 miles west of Chicago. Though there are many well-to-do Chicago people who have second homes or vacation in southwest Michigan, Decatur is not one of those places they visit; I would characterize the people who live there as more of a classic rock or country crowd, so it was an odd place to hear 80s British electronic pop.

An 80s channel is often being played at my gym in the mornings. It was the same on Tuesday morning, Echo & The Bunnymen of those days, tracks like "The perfect kiss" and "The promise". So I was caught off guard when I realized I was hearing the opening guitar of "Did you see me coming?" The algorithm made a stretch of more than 20 years! This is in the US, to make 2000s-era PSB even more unlikely to hear in public. It sounded good, albeit incongruous.

Hymn at a gay bar in Madrid last June. Extended 12" mix of Always on my mind (From the start!) at Pride parade in Buenos Aires a couple years ago.
I know those two places are not exactly odd for PSB songs. I was just surprised they chose those songs (Or mixes).

Not a particularly odd place, but I was walking through a shopping center on a busy sunny Sunday last week and heard Always On My Mind. It was in the actual shopping center so the speakers are far away, adding a natural reverb and ambience.
I was with a good friend, a female I'm rapidly warming up to. Hearing the intro melody and imagining it being played by Chris' hands, and hearing the classic PSB bassline, and Neil's voice really added to my already boosted mood. It's great how context can add to the experience of hearing a song.

This shouldn't be odd, but I just heard IDOSAC on CBC radio, London Morning live here in SW Ontario driving our kid to school!
