Greetings,

Suggestion: start taking control a bit more.
It has been a rough week for them. I can understand your sentiment too. Maybe it might be time for a bit of low-key song-writing or studio time... something which "circumstances beyond our control" cannot easily encroach upon.

Retro. :)

They were headliners, not the organisers 🤷‍♂️

What a relief it's cancelled! It's madness going against Putin like that. Please stop immediately! Not worth risking your life.

I wonder if the event was canceled due to security threats?

Maybe it's Putin himself showing his powers.

Here is the cancellation concert email I received today as attached in Russian. I don't speak Russian language by the way. Here is the Google translation into English:

"Friends, unfortunately we had to cancel the concert in Berlin for reasons beyond our control.

We will automatically refund everyone who bought tickets to the concert to the card or account you used to make the purchase. If this does not happen within two weeks, please write to us at support@navalny.com.

We know that many were planning to come from other countries, and we are ready to compensate for non-refundable tickets and reservations. Send all the data to the support email: support@navalny.com and we will definitely cover the expenses that can no longer be returned.

Thank you for responding to our call, we are very sad to disappoint you and cancel everything. But it is necessary.

We will inform you about the time, place and other details of the presentation of the Alexei Navalny Prize later - in letters and on social networks.

Thank you for being with us!"

It's not a human rights issue with Navalny, Putin just brutally gets rid of people working against him. Neil and Chris never cared about politics anyway, why become fanatically activist now?

Counterpoint: Please and Actually are two of the most politically charged albums of the 80s. Their activism may have been couched in double meanings, allusion and playfulness (which added a tension and a frisson to their output that is admittedly - and to my mind sadly - lacking in Hymn as well as a lot of their post-1990 output) but it was always there and always vital.

To not speak? That's the sin.

Agreed - but would this concert not have been an example of that fight?

(Which is easy for me to say as a white cis-gendered male 1,400 miles away from Kyiv and 650 miles away from Berlin, it's true...)

The lyrics to the new song are pure attention seeking from Putin. I think they got his attention now. Time to get back in the studio safe and sound.
