Where the Streets... looked like a cash grab to me when it came out because the Behaviour singles didn't do as well as expected. Later I got why they released it and I'd like to think this is the reason U2 went into a new direction with Achtung Baby and Pop, which is imho the best U2 incarnation.

The covers from this era (1987-1992) really stand out, what a great album it could've been:
1. Always On My Mind
2. Losing My Mind
3. It's Alright
4. Where The Streets/Can't take my eyes
5. Go West
6. Crying Game
7. What keeps mankind alive

The ones from 1993-1995 are good as well
1. Girls and Boys
2. Rhythm of the night
3. Mr Vain
4. If love were all

I don't think you're too far from the truth but Bono would never admit the inspiration.

The best thing about a good cover version is that it's different from the original without being significantly different. And we've two cover versions that qualify here.

That's the great thing about U2 and Bono. Improvising and suddenly incorporating another tune.

Oscar Wilde and Debussy to a disco beat. Bold. An essential PSB track.

Love DJ Culcha. The groove, the descending piano riffs, the melody build in the chorus.

Chris got freer reign in this era on the b-sides and this interim single to show his influences from dance and rave.
Neil's lyrics are wonderfully educating, arch and a bit bitchy. And what a corker of a middle eight.

I've always loved DJ Culture and the cover photo is one of their best. I still can't understand why it's never been performed live. Maybe one day on the (neverending) Dreamworld Tour..??
