Nicely executing that trick of being reserved but chest-swelling at the same time. Referencing dance, but not dance. Stonking stuff!

Indeed. I forgot about that. I was really thinking more about the big World Tours like Fundamental, Electric, Nightlife etc, plus the current Dreamworld Tour though.. It's almost as if it doesn't exist to Neil and Chris.. Surely with the Dreamworld Tour now going into it's third (or is it fourth) year, then the set list could be freshened up with singles that have so far not been performed..??

It is a great track but very understated. The verses are very wordy too, so it was not the ideal single to sell Discography.

Something anthemic like Disappointed by Electronic, which came out the following year, would have worked.

I’ve considerable fondness for Disappointed; however, is there anything left to unpack after the first few listens? If it’s being sold to me, I’ll buy the puzzle that is DJ Culture every time.

The DJ Culture maxi was the first CD I bought (along with Discography) so I've been playing at lot over the years. It's a great track. I deserves to be on a proper studio album. I've been trying to assemble tracks for a "lost 1992 album" where DJ Culture would be a centerpiece.

As years passed by, my ears got used to it, but, oh boy, at the time it was released, it was pure shock. It was...very lukewarm, very boring, very uninteresting.

I remember a review of Discography. The reviewer boldly exclaimed that if DJ Culture wasn't on the album, he would call Discography among the top ten "Best of Best Ofs" ever and the "Best of Best Ofs" of the decade, and rate it 10 out of 10, but alas, he rated it 9 out of 10,

Moving along to the penultimate song on this album.

Love the bass line and syncopation on the high hat.

"PSB doing a SAW track", I thought when I heard it first. Great track though.

I love the outro with melancholic-but-euphoric (as always) synth line and Neil singing "I don't know why I never thought I'd fall in love". Sounds like the epigraph to Very.

‘Was it worth it’ would be a great addition to their Dreamworld tour. Upbeat, danceable track.

I've always felt a little sorry for Was It Worth It?, their dirty little secret that didn't even get on PopArt. It's quite a sweet song that still recalls university interviews and the end of one part of my life, just like it closes a chapter in their career.

The Melody Maker review of Discography criticised it for being too optimistic ("defiantly optimistic" as the sleeve notes say) but it's still suffused with a melancholy air. Of course now, we from the future can absolutely see it as the proto-Very but back in winter 1991 it was the first PSB single not to make the top twenty since the original release of Opportunities, a trauma for Petheads that James Masterton probably wrote a book about.
