I love Liberation, it's one of my favourite Pet Shop Boys songs, actually. Kind of a guilty pleasure. I tend to forget about it though, but everytime I rediscover it I'm amazed by how great it sounds. Maybe their best "straigth-forward" love song?

It seems like he was a fairly decent guy, particularly considering he was a Radio 1 DJ in the 80s. A radio nerd.

However, his show was often homophobic, if only because Wright laboured under the misapprehension that all gay people were camp, limp-wristed predators out to nail that fine ass of erm, Steve Wright. That was very much a lazy 70s/80s stereotype and if there's one thing The Steve Wright Show did, it was to embrace lazy stereotypes.

Very was great, wasn't it? What an opening - the waspish, bombastic Can You Forgive Her?, the joyous and Beatlesesque I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing (I like the single version but it loses the simplicity of the album mix), the romantic sweep of Liberation and the frenetic pulsing beat of A Different Point of View, which could have been a single. They are back, back, BACK!!!!!

I've been listening to Very a lot lately. It was indeed a wonderful time to be a fan.

was Point Of View considered for Kylie, or was it One In A Million?

I have a different point of view, I'm afraid. It's one of those Very songs that I can't distinguish from others in the tracklist. A different point of view, One and one make five, One in a million men... All share the same dated, kitchen sink production that makes listening to this album so exhausting for me.

You are not alone. Dreaming of The Queen and To Speak is a Sin are the high points for me; other than those, there’s not much on Very I revisit. I can still luxuriate in Behaviour. Very, not so much.

Very much agree. Dreaming of the Queen should have been a single, it's hauntingly beautiful and poignant.

True. They all sound like early demos, same programming as the demo for Kylie (Falling) So, if singles 3 and 5 needed fixing then the album was released to manufacturing too early. Though IWNDTKT in my opionion didn't need any work done, they spoiled it. And who can stand Young Offender when there's the Jam & Spoon's masterpiece?

Maybe a curated version of Very? Madonna's re-releasing Bedtime Stories in Novemeber in such a manner.

"I believe in ecstacy" the closing track produced as an ut-tempo disco stomper, and they can kiss their troubles away.

Very a 5 million selling album, not to shabby.

I love a different point of view. There’s a really good remix of it on YouTube, which takes some of the computer game noise out of it. Sounds even better

Was Very the one where they set out to produce an album full of Stock Aitken & Waterman tracks?

The smaller tracks have that vibe.

I enjoy it for what it is!

Remember the loudness war? The finale of Go West was too much for my old Sony stereo. The first pressed edition of Very was so loud that the cheap and trashy production was just fine. Because that's what an orange Lego sounds like. Now it's not as charming anymore.

True that! A different point of view, 1+1=5 and 1 in a 1'000'000, while certainly not being the greatest PSB songs, are the core of this album for me - flashy, tasty, shameless, very in-your-face pop.
