Did Release really have a fourth week in the top 75 ? I thought it only managed three weeks. Not that it really matters, though...

They are bands who have been going for 20+ years and still getting great recognition. You cannot expect artists to still sell millions and dominate music, two decades on. What exactly is it you expect?

Paul Simon once said ''Every generation throws a hero up the pop charts.''

Appreciate bands who have been going for years and still get top 5 albums because most bands have long since gone and are scaping the barrel by playing in working mens clubs.

Anyway, 'Release' spent 4 weeks in the Top 75:
7-32-49-61.

There must be something nasty about 4 weeks...it is already set as a unsurmountable barrier.

Thanks for the info. It's amazing how similar the PSB, New Order and Depeche Mode chart placings are. Does anybody have the info for Erasure's Nightbird and Morrisey's new album?

Nightbird was a huge failure when it hit at 29 or 30??? in its first week when sales were quite low...so it fails to match the above-mentioned chart running from its very beginning...

Does anyone know if any of the aforementioned albums re-entered the chart upon release of subsequent singles?

The chart run for Nightbird was 27-75-OUT. And that was in January, the slowest month.

Morrissey album (released 3.4.) is out of the 75 this week, but I remember it still being there last week. In any way it probably stayed for 7 or 8 weeks in the Top 75.

DM and NO didn't. The jury is still out on Placebo, because they haven't released a second single yet, but with a chart run like that, re-entering seems very unlikely.

Nightbird bombed big time. DM, NO and PSB have all sold at least 5 times as many copies. Nightbird only sold 10,500 overall. If the album had been released in the middle of the year or later, it wouldn't have even hit the top 50.

1-6-18-38-54-72-64-58-60-72-78.

So it went up from 72 to 64 and then to 58. Was that when a single was released?

Yes, the effect of The Youngest Was The Most Loved can be seen at that point. Although it's more of a question of at which point the track got the most airplay than when the physical single was released.
