Basing on my co-workers reaction, Minimal should have become first single.
Integral likely got the biggest response because it ended the first part of the show.
Quite frankly they could close the show with Disco 2 and still get a huge applause.
But then its all completely subjective, does your co-workers opinion really count for anything? Of course not, everyone thinks differently. Some people think Numb should be a single, after all. There is no accounting for taste.

Of course, no one gives a damn about my co-workers reactions, neither do I. But I tell you something, to target more than just fans, indeed, nothing will do better than 'Minimal'.

So why respond to the point a total of three times in this thread?
It doesn't warrant further discussion after you've told everyone how wrong they are and how you think all the people here are pathetic and you should be able to disctate what is and isn't talked about, you mean? This is a public forum. If you want to buddy up to your pals and all get along nicely why don't you go back to the other forum and be 'gone' from here so we can talk about what we want to without your ridiculous catty insults and presenting opinions as facts. "NO INTENTION!!"
jamie1978 wrote:Look at the chart run of Fundamental. It is the PERFECT example of how a fan-based act perform in the charts.
You talk about Release being a huge commercial flop. Well, actually, the chart run is almost IDENTICAL to Fundamental. Indeed, in its fourth week on the chart Release was actually placed higher than Fundamental is now.
I rest my case.
I wish you *would* actually rest the case. We're having a useless discussion, since you have your facts, and I have my opinion. But what worries me most the lack of ambition and positivism in your answer. I am aware that *so far* the chart run of Fundamental is similar to the one of Release, but guess what: there's a brilliant new single coming up. Even some BBC Radio 1 deejays plan to play it. Minimal might stimulate album sales, and even if it doesn't do so, there are still other tracks on the album that can do the trick.
It's useless to continue. Let's just wait and see.
I hope Minimal stimulates album sales too. All I'm doing is stating the obvious, which many PSB fans completely deny. Its good for people to have a reality check occasionally.
What we all can't deny is that;
* Fundamental has so far performed almost identically to Nightlife and Release, and not as well as Nightlife in Europe.
* Pet Shop Boys are a fan based act as we can clearly see from the post-Very chart runs.
* There will not to be any further singles if Minimal does not increase album sales.
I can see why hardcore PSB fans don't like to here this, but to deny it is to appear out of touch with reality and in a state of denial.

Because you lot need a reality check. I consider it a public duty.
However tempting it is to go off-track and dive into the rest of the discussions, I'll just keep to the topic and say that I think PSB and EMI might have gone into the Fundamental release campaign thinking that Numb could well be a 3rd single. However, I think the wide-spread caning it's received from the media and many fans alike mean that it won't be the 3rd single after all.
The reason for it not being performed live however might be that it's quite a vocally challenging song and Neil may not feel comfortable doing it live (although it was done for the Radio 2 show).
Hopefully this means the 3rd single (should one exist) will be Integral... their best song since Can You Forgive Her?. If they do this, I'll probably be the only person on this board who thinks their selections for singles 1, 2 and 3 have all been absolutely spot on.

I agree that if there is a third single, it will be Integral.
With regard to their single choices, they probably did go with the right songs, though leading the campaign with I'm with stupid was a questionable move, as its definately the weaker of the three.

I don't agree with that. First off, this is not the Fundamental tour, but brief appearances at summer festivals. Thus, the aim is not primarily to 'sell' Fundamental. PSB not playing Numb is no indication as to whether it will be a single or not.
As to Numb being challenging. Well, LIAC was also on the same vein. And *that* didn't stop Neil singing it on the Release tour.
