Fantastic show that was, I remember watching it at the time I hoping PSB, Depeche mode and Erasure would all be top 3, which they were! I was sure PSB would be number 1!Undertaker wrote:Anyone remember this? It was on Channel 4 a few years ago, presented by Marc Almond. It's the top ten Electronic acts of all time.

Re: The Chart Thread
I'm a Human League fan, but I don't begrudge Depeche Mode finishing above them in that list, even though they barely pay lip-service to electronic music these days.
Bless them, they've never had a #1 hit of their own to celebrate, on either side of the Atlantic, much less the 1 UK and 2 US #1s that THL have.

Surely Soft Cell and Marc Almond should have been involved though. Unless they were part of another show.

I agree, I think they were hard done by in that list.
Still, that's what these lists are for, isn't it - to stimulate debate and argument.
However, there's no disputing that #1 slot. On whatever scale you care to measure it - influence, longevity, number 1s, versatility, lyrical and musical accomplishment etc - PSB are Britain's (the world's?) top electronic artist of all time.

Re: The Chart Thread
Marc Almond says during the show that Soft cell were not part of the list due to him presenting the show, a little strange I know but he says it and they play a soft cell track at the end. The list was based on UK record sales or chart placings, I can't remember which now, and it would have been interesting to see where they would have been on that list.Undertaker wrote:Surely Soft Cell and Marc Almond should have been involved though. They were part of the Top 10: New Romantics show. Mind you, so were The Human League. Marc Almond hosted the show and said at the begining "modestry prevents me from including Soft Cell" or something along those lines.Undertaker wrote:Surely Soft Cell and Marc Almond should have been involved though. I wonder how they decided which bands to include. Tears For Fears (and to some extent the Thompson Twins) stand out as being considerably less "synth-y" than the rest.

More interested in stats for DM than Erasure as DM are the biggest synth group bar none in the world.
she's a little goer.

Re: The Chart Thread
Thompson twins were not exactly synth nor were TFF from 1986 onwards.Jimmy S was only synth in Bronski Beat and THL are basically just a sad nostlgic act this last decade playing Dare live over and over again for the Xmas works night out which is a great waste but the rest of the list I approve of.
she's a little goer.

It is interesting thing you are the only one clapping... You can easily ease yourself off your "well-intentional" job and go away for a sunny holiday in Erasuredom...Thank you for your condescending serviceshomer1972 wrote:Paddymacall wrote:homer1972 wrote: I like PSB, but can see their faults as well as their positives and state them to counteract the idolising that some people on the forum are guilty of.
A thankless job I know but one I do for the benefit of the forum.
