Re: This Is Navalny - Benefit concert (NOW CANCELLED)

So you know the way lots of silly Brits don't understand the finer points and nuance involved in Central and Eastern European geopolitics?markus wrote: Wed 18 Jun 2025, 7:57 am Tell me what? Actually and Please were mostly about sex according to horses mouth. What did I miss?
The same can be true in reverse.
Re: This Is Navalny - Benefit concert (NOW CANCELLED)
Since we agree nobody ever realised there was political activism hidden there, where exactly was it all aimed at? When they suddenly die as political martyrs in the hands of Putin, the world will surely know how they completely missjudged everything?Vintage Youth wrote: Wed 18 Jun 2025, 10:33 amSo you know the way lots of silly Brits don't understand the finer points and nuance involved in Central and Eastern European geopolitics?markus wrote: Wed 18 Jun 2025, 7:57 am Tell me what? We don't, they did, the UK Conservative Government of the 1980s (among other things), and let's see how this period of time is judged in the future.markus wrote: Wed 18 Jun 2025, 10:44 amSince we agree nobody ever realised there was political activism hidden there, where exactly was it all aimed at? I was thinking about that too, and the about how the world changed from there to what it was in 1996: The iron lady turned into the Spice girls, cool Brittania and Tony Blair. The Soviet union was no more and Boris Yeltzin seemed friendly towards democracy. What was the Psb stand on politics? What could it possibly have been in a world with such drastic changes? Being easely led like puppets seriosly rmaking it about life and death to remark on Putin's doings, is just not like them. Raises questions like what about Ayatollah Khomeini? They could've fought an agressive campaign against Iran for last 40 years just as well. What's so special about Putin? There was always a tyrant somwhere pestering the world. Why loose your cool?Vintage Youth wrote: Thu 19 Jun 2025, 10:43 amWe don't, they did, the UK Conservative Government of the 1980s (among other things), and let's see how this period of time is judged in the future.markus wrote: Wed 18 Jun 2025, 10:44 amSince we agree nobody ever realised there was political activism hidden there, where exactly was it all aimed at? Indeed. Two live tracks released from an indefinitely delayed bluray and a single promoting a non-existent concert. Give me 2024 any day.

We've been over this a few times, Neil has always an interest in/has studied Russian history, it's not outlandish to expect them to have opinions on the subject. Lots of pop acts wrote songs about the Northern Ireland Troubles in the 80s. There's a whole raft of songs about nuclear war. Sting wanged on about rainforests. And let's not even start with Bono.markus wrote: Thu 19 Jun 2025, 11:11 amI was thinking about that too, and the about how the world changed from there to what it was in 1996: The iron lady turned into the Spice girls, cool Brittania and Tony Blair. Lots of acts currently have things to say about US politics and what's going on in the Middle East. A member of Kneecap has just been in court in the UK for waving the flag of a proscribed organisation at a gig.
Pop stars often align themselves with certain issues but no one can align themselves to every issue. If it's too much for your conscience, walk away, or just hold your nose. There are other musical acts out there, we don't own these people and can't influence their feelings on world events.

Alas, it's probably the price we pay for a stellar 2024. We truly were spoiled.daveid wrote: Thu 19 Jun 2025, 12:10 pmIndeed. Two live tracks released from an indefinitely delayed bluray and a single promoting a non-existent concert. Give me 2024 any day.
For your own good, call me tonight.

Absolutely, well said. I don't even think N&C are OT in any way with their outlook and occasional song.Vintage Youth wrote: Thu 19 Jun 2025, 8:04 pm Pop stars often align themselves with certain issues but no one can align themselves to every issue. It would be WAY weirder if WW3 started (as it possibly has
It's true! They are recharging their creative batteries at this point.petshopgrrl wrote: Fri 20 Jun 2025, 7:03 pm Alas, it's probably the price we pay for a stellar 2024. We truly were spoiled.

Was just thinking about the assertion that Please and Actually are mostly about sex.... strikes me that they did a good job of creating interesting albums that were more than just banning on about shagging. They tend way more towards the miserablism or gentler side of love, and very rarely the steamy side. Lots of social commentary in their love songs too.
Two divided by zero Escape/Better life
West End girls Social commentary
Opportunities (Let’s make lots of money) Social commentary
Love comes quickly Love
Suburbia Social commentary
Opportunities (reprise)
Tonight is forever Love / Social commentary
Violence Social commentary
I want a lover Sex
Later tonight Love
Why don’t we live together? Love, possibly more
One more chance Love, I guess?
What have I done to deserve this? Love
Shopping Social commentary
Rent Love
Hit music Social commentary
It couldn’t happen here Biographical
It’s a sin Love, social commentary? possibly more?
I want to wake up Love
Heart Love, I guess? possibly more?

It's intresting how Madonna's gone quiet lately. It's like Neil and Chris took over the revolution of love from from her what she was hashtaging a decade ago, raving against all the negative development in the world. Psb's alone with this, that's what scares me. Maybe this the moment one should be silent.
Re: This Is Navalny - Benefit concert (NOW CANCELLED)
Huh? If, like you claim, it's just one single artist/band commentating on horrifying real world realities then that's fully WEIRD. If that's true, they impress me even more.
Re: This Is Navalny - Benefit concert (NOW CANCELLED)
Yes, it's true. I've looked around and made a comparison. It's like in nazi Germany. The other famous people hashtag Wolkswagen and say heil fuhrer politely like they're told to. Neil and Chris are the only rebels.jasonjohn wrote: Sun 22 Jun 2025, 4:07 am Huh?
