Placed an order from Amazon on the 6th for four items ready for 24 hour despatch, estimated delivery 15th -19th

CD WOW! but it still hasn't arrived yet, but
hey, at least I got an email so far ...
I should have bought the one I've had in my
hands in that record shop in Berlin next day.

CD WOW are based in Hong Kong, so postage to Europe usually takes a week or so.

I remember ordering a Morrissey - Under The Influence compilation from CD WOW and it arrived the Saturday before release date. The longest I had to wait was 2-3 days after release date.

You can never quite be sure which edition you're going to get with CD WOW. I have had quite a few Thai and Taiwanese releases from them. Having said that, I think the BPI took action against them through the EU recently - they are only allowed to sell European CDs to UK and Irish customers now. As you're in Germany though, Pani - who knows?!

Ripping is not the problem. The copy control technology doesn’t allow the computer to play the real sound tracks: it makes the player (Windows Media, Real, WinAMP, etc.) to get stuck and report disk errors.

Which is why, if necessary, you rip the tracks to CDR and play that on affected players.

I believe I've been able to rip every CC cd I have, tho some were more troublesome than others.

FYI - EMI Asia hardly manufactures any CD in Asia, they are all imports from EU. Think they are just keeping tight control of the releases. Sans China , of coz.

OK, so I buy an original and official copy protected CD and then I have to make a copy that can be played properly on my computer. Do you think it makes sense?

I never said it did. But it's a simple solution to the annoying problem of "copy controlled" cds. Either buy it and work around the problem or don't buy it and write a letter to the label stating why.

If your main concern is being able to play the thing on your computer then rip it and leave it on the hard disk. If space is an issue compress it to a reasonable bitrate or use a lossless codec like flac.

My concern is being able to play my CDs on every CD player at home. And, in this particular case, the pure and simple solution is to buy the cheaper, better packaged and not copy controlled UK edition.
