PSB mentioned on Keane's DVD

Don´t know if this has been mentioned here before (sorry if it was) but a few minutes ago, watching the extras on the Keane 'Strangers' DVD, when the pianist Tim Ryce goes to stage to recieve the Ivor Novello award (Keane won one of this last year...) he says something like: "I was obsesed in writing songs since I *...something I can´t understand...* actually, Pet Shop Boys back in....1988..."
Somebody here have this DVD an can transcript exactly what he says? As the english is not my language, I have some serious troubles trying to understand the'fast' speaking...
