I've decided to try to wait for Fundamental without listening to any songs in advance (that includes also I'm with stupid) to have once again "undisturbed" album experience (well, actually it must be at some point back in 89-91 when I heard a PSB album without knowing any song in advance for the last time).

Now, I ocassionally listen to the music on my PC, when surfing the net. And just a few minutes ago, while listening to "How I Learned to Hate R'nR" from my WMP library, I visited the official PSB site. Imagine what streamed into my headphones...

At first I wondered what kind of music is this supposed to be, as I was subsequently opening another PSB site - and so if anything, I expected PSB music; this was obviously an unknown tune to me. :) And then the lyrics made it clear. :)

So I have a rough idea about the "refrain" now. Well. :D

Still at resistance, anyway.

Tom

PS If I can judge from a few-secs sample, it didn't sound bad! :D

But surely listening to the first single from an album is part of the whole experience? I would prefer not to hear the album until it is released but it's genuinely exciting hearing I'm with Stupid, waiting for the video and looking forward to the whole promotional campaign. Singles have always been hugely important events for PSB and bless them for still revering a devalued art form.

But there can be different attitudes (experiences). It's up to anyone to play the single or the album "game". This time I prefer the other way. :)

No objection. :) I will only have a little delay re hearing the single and seeing the video.

I think hearing the whole album without any prior "tasters" can be at least just as exciting (no two months old songs; a completely new landscape of music). And since it's impossible to have both, I'm trying to wait.

I totally agree with JSP. This is the first single Tomas. Go to the official site and get excited and listen, and enjoy. It will most certainly fuel your desire even more for the album. It is all about fun and enjoyment, take it in. But hey, if what you wish to do excites ya more, most certainly go with that. =)

So far I like the idea of hearing the whole album for the first time at once. :) Trying a different thing once in 15 years, keeping the new music secret closed until it can explode at full. Also, if I knew the single, there's only 11/12 to look for on the album. We were ages without a new full-length album, so these seven weeks won't kill me. :)

Don't see any opposition or whatever negative against fun, enjoyment, singles behind my waiting. I'm glad there's a lot of new PSB things ahead of us. I also assume the later I'll get (listening-wise) into this 2006 adventure, the later the excitement will start to fade (as with anything once new).

I'm resisting listening to the album when it leaks but surely the single is different. I could understand it if you meant the singles bonus tracks.

Will you avoid radios too then? I'm with you, Tomas, as I won't accept any offers to have a listen at the album before its release.
I did download "Stupid" though, because someone got it from some radio show. If it's being aired already it's ok to have a listen, imo. Even if I hadn't downloaded it, I would've heard it anyway, as it was on the radio last week.

So, will you keep your radio switched off 'til the release and not go shopping, out of fear of hearing it on the speakers?

This time. I decided to live again the old experience, just like Tomas, but always the first single was out prior to the album...that´s the idea. Even when internet didn´t exist, the first singles were aired on radio and music channels, time before the album release...so I didn´t resist to I'm with stupid, but now, I´ll wait for the album release date too! No previews, no downloads...
Maybe we can create a special thread here for all of us, to give us strenght ! I know there are many of us trying to do this...;)...and I know I´ll need it!!!

As I stated already, I'm just trying to experience once again the full blast that only an album with all previously unknown songs can provide (and with this album release, the idea of playing Fundamentalism right after (of course when wíil this "right after" happen, tha depends on how addictive Fundamental will be :) ) Fundamental makes the anticipation - and hopefully also the listening experience - even stronger). Full stop. :)

Not a big issue for me regarding radio, because I haven't actually listen to it for years now, only very seldom.

And as for shops, that may happen, but the chance is quite low, as in some shops they have their own "melodies", and secondly, I'd say singles in the Czech Republic (where I live) usually don't have much airplay weeks or even months before their commercial release (if I can judge on my earlier and limited experiences - I never was a radio freak) - it's definitely not like in the UK for example.

So all in all, I don't worry about randomly hearing the song. Basically, the bigger danger for me could be the web, as in fact proved by my original post in this topic. :)

(By the way, if anyone is interested, here is the current airplay chart for Czech Rep.:
http://www.ifpi.cz/radio.htm - week 13 at the moment. Perhaps someone can say how much/little is it dated compared to other countries.)

I too was avoiding the track until its actual release. Then I told myself I'd wait until April 14th when the video was shown on Channel 4. Of course I've succumbed and am currently listening to the track on the official website!!!

I love it! :D

I'm not too worried about hearing the single(s) first. I'm kinda thinking that maybe the single might be a little different from the album mix, ala Suburbia, Heart, I wouldn't normally do..., Yesterday when I was mad, etc. If the single is slightly different, then when I hear the CD, it will still be a new experience! Still pretty darn cool 8)

I may be wrong, I may be right (about the versions of I'm with stupid).
Money's short (can I afford all the new stuff coming out??),
and time is tight (I can't hardly wait for Fundamental)...

I love the way PSB songs seem to apply to all occasions! :D
