A Powerful Friend ...where has it gone ?

A Powerful Friend, I first heard this song on the John Peel Session on Radio 2.

It is a absolute 'gem' of a song, cracking production and a wonderful vocal performance from Neil - 'when pizza boy delivers what he needs on demand.'

...but where has it gone ?

Will it ever see the light ?

What do you think, if you haven't heard it, then I may be able to help.

Yeah, it is a good song. I have the John Peel recording of it on cd that a good friend made for a me not long after it was broadcast.
I love the lyrics, and it`s a fitting title as it is a very powerful song. Should`ve been a b-side, that song will never be on anything. They did "If looks could kill" that night also, was a very weak version but the one on Disco 3 was a big improvement don`t you think?

that's what bugs be about I'm With Stupid

I think "if this is a new single.... why wasn't A Powerful Friend released as a single years ago?"

Not that I don't like I'm with stupid

I seem to remember Neil commenting that they weren't that pleased with A powerful friend.

In my opinion, the Peel version of If looks could kill is superior to the Disco 3 version. Far more '80s'.

Neil doesn't like A Powerful Friend, it seems.

To bad. IMO, it's one of the finest PSB moments in recent years (although I know the song was written ages ago). It's raw, fresh, energetic and intense - almost punky!

I don't even think they need to rerecord it - just release that John Peel demo as it is on a b-side.

I'm not a big fan of A Powerful Friend. It might be fast and the lyrics might be good, but the melody goes nowhere.
If Looks Could Kill on the other hand is pretty good in both versions.

From what people have been saying about the new album, a Powerful Friend would have fitted on it nicely. Awesome record but the vocals could have done with a bit of tampering. IMO, i think this song will be a b-side, eventually. Otherwise, it surely would have been on Disco 3.

I love A Powerful Friend, imagine how good Disco 3 would be if the Superchumbo mix wasn't included and this was.

I guess we might be lucky enough to get it on a future B-side (along with the single mix of No Time For Tears - which, I have to say, excites me less...)
